Crazy honesty! Last week I had one of those conversations with my longtime friend and business BFF, Courtney. You’ve heard her on the podcast many times. We were talking about Liz Gilbert’s new book, and how her recent conversation with Oprah (worth a listen here: Liz Gilbert with Oprah) absolutely floored us.

Liz said: “I’m the Eat Pray Love lady and I’m a mess!”

The honesty in that statement stopped me in my tracks. Here’s someone who has inspired millions, admitting that she struggles just like the rest of us. It’s shocking in its vulnerability, and also unbelievably brave.

Because let’s face it—being honest can be terrifying. To admit the messy parts, the moments we don’t have it together, the pieces we’d rather hide. But when someone at her level of visibility tells the truth in such a raw way, it gives the rest of us permission to breathe a little easier. To not have it all figured out. To simply be human.

I’m holding onto that reminder this week: honesty, even when scary, is powerful.

Keep it simple?

As the air cools and days get shorter, it’s tempting to overcomplicate things with big new routines and lofty goals.

Thought for the Week: Keep it simple.

Sometimes the best reset is the smallest one. Drinking more water. Showing up to class once more per week. Reading a few pages before bed instead of scrolling. And I’m being open to how our routine will shift this fall.
Just like the foods that we eat change, so does the way we move and our habits, be open to it. Letting go of the resistance and seeing what unfolds just might surprise you.

So here’s my question to you: what’s one simple thing you can do this week to feel more lively?

Looking back to last year when Artemis Yoga and Get Lively joined forces for a road show, popping up in each other’s studios and sharing our love of movement. Our crews loved it, we loved it, and it was such a great reminder of how much stronger we are when we support each other.

This year we got to celebrate again at the Watertown Small Biz event, How Small Businesses Are Lifting Each Other Up. It was such an honor to be there alongside Liz Padula, founder of Artemis Yoga, and so many other amazing business owners in our community.

Thought for the Week: Movement doesn’t always have to feel like work—it can feel like fun.

That’s exactly why we’re hosting our Pretty Woman Dance Fitness Pop-Up next Tuesday, Sept 16! It’s a 45-minute dance workout set to the Pretty Woman soundtrack, led by guest instructor Kirsten McKinney. It’s meant to be joyful, fun, and just a little bit sassy. For me, fun has shown up in simple ways—like the walks Fran and I keep taking, even though it’s pitch dark now at 5am. The world feels quieter, and those moments remind me that fitness doesn’t always have to be about sweat or effort. I don’t even put my weighted vest on. Just pour a cup of coffee, toss on a hoodie (love this time of year when you need one in the morning!) and go.

So here’s a question for you: what was your favorite fun summer moment?

For me, it was our trip to Acadia. Fran and I hiked some of the most beautiful trails we’ve ever seen… we are still talking about it.
