WSU Extension Chelan/Douglas/Okanogan SNAP-Ed Nutrition SNAP-Ed (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education) educates families with limited income

SNAP-Ed (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education) has been serving Chelan/Douglas/Okanogan County communities since 1991. Our goal is to educate families with limited income, providing knowledge and tools to develop healthy eating habits, cooking and shopping skills, and incorporate physical activity into their daily lives. We visit schools with 50% or more free and reduced lunch progr

am participation, to teach youth about the importance of eating whole grains, fruits and vegetables, using fun hands-on activities. SNAP-Ed partners with local agencies and complements food assistance programs by working directly with people to provide science based education that builds skills needed to provide themselves and their families with nutritious, low-cost and safe food.

🍅🍝 Homemade Garden Tomato Pasta Sauce 🌿❤️

There’s nothing like the taste of fresh tomatoes straight from the garden—and they make the BEST pasta sauce!

Here’s a simple way to turn your garden tomatoes into a delicious homemade sauce:

🥄 Ingredients:

Fresh tomatoes (chopped)

Garlic and onion (sautéed in a little olive oil)

A pinch of salt, pepper, and herbs like basil or oregano

Optional: diced carrots or bell pepper for added flavor and nutrition

Simmer everything together until the sauce thickens—about 30–40 minutes. Blend it smooth or leave it chunky, depending on how you like it!

A big thank you to Jackie from Extension SNAP-Ed Nutrition for coming up to Peshastin this week! We had a great time exploring their mobile storywalk and planting marigold seeds. If you missed it, we'll keep the story walk up in the library yard through July 25th.
