Alexander Katopis, MS, LCPC, ACS, NCC, CTMH, MHRT-C, is a licensed clinical professional counselor, educator, and mental health leader based in Maine. He currently serves as Interim Chair and Field Placement Coordinator in the Counselor Education Program at the University of Southern Maine, where he supervises field placements and provides academic advising for approximately 85 counseling students. In addition, he is the Co-Owner and Clinical Director of R&K Wellness and Mental Health in Waterville, Maine, a community-based mental health agency, and Co-Owner of Wisdom Journeys, LLC, an organization that offers international workshops and culturally immersive trainings. With more than two decades of leadership experience in behavioral health administration, Alexander has directed operations, clinical programs, and staff development for agencies including SequelCare of Maine and Merrymeeting Behavioral Health Associates, overseeing regulatory compliance, budgeting, and program expansion. He holds a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (summa cm laude) and a Bachelor of Science in Social and Behavioral Sciences (cum laude) from the University of Southern Maine, an Associate of Science in Business Management and Finance from Endicott College, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision at Capella University.
Alexander’s expertise spans clinical counseling, supervision, telemental health, and group counseling, with a focus on integrating ethical practice, cultural competence, and applied therapeutic models. He is a frequent workshop facilitator on topics such as telemental health ethics and the clinical applications of myth, including his “Myth of the Labyrinth” series. His scholarly contributions include work submitted to The Professional Counselor. Alexander recently published, through Wisdom Journeys Publishing, The Essentials of Supervising Practiucm and Internship Students in Counselor Education Programs, which is a significant contribution to the counseling Field. Professionally, he holds multiple credentials, including National Certified Counselor, Approved Clinical Supervisor, Certified Telemental Health Provider, Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician – Community, and LOCUS-certified rater. An active member of professional organizations such as the American Counseling Association, National Board for Certified Counselors, Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, and the Maine Mental Health Counselors Association (where he served as President), Alexander was awarded the Maine Counseling Association’s John Parkman Award for outstanding service to the profession in 2021. Through his combined clinical practice, academic leadership, and commitment to professional development, he continues to advance the field of counseling in Maine and beyond.
