Congratulations to our Chamber of Commerce Business of the Month:
BACK TO HEALTH
By Melanie Davis
Back to Health, a chiropractic and wellness clinic in Wathena, Kansas has been serving the Doniphan County community for over two decades. Founded by Dr. Heather Cluck in 2002, the clinic has grown into a trusted local resource for chiropractic care, massage therapy, acupuncture, ion cleanse detoxifications and many other wellness services. The Doniphan County Chamber of Commerce recognizes Back to Health as Business of the Month for its longstanding commitment to helping residents live healthier lives.
Dr. Cluck originally opened her practice in Troy, Kansas before relocating it to her hometown of Wathena a few years later. But her journey into chiropractic care started long before that. “Being raised in a chiropractic family, I’ve always been drawn to helping others,” she said. “Chiropractic just seemed like the perfect fit.”
After earning her degree from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, Cluck returned home to open her own practice, one that has since become a fixture in the community, dedicated to helping people lead healthier, more balanced lives.
“Our motto is ‘inspiring others to live a healthy lifestyle,’” she said. “That message is at the heart of everything we do.”
While many people think of chiropractors as back pain specialists, Dr. Cluck says that’s just scratching the surface of what chiropractic care can offer. “Although some believe it’s only for back pain, chiropractic care treats the whole body by optimizing the body’s innate potential,” she explained. “We’re trying to help the body neurologically fire better, physically move better, stand better, feel better, and function better overall.”
That focus on the nervous system means patients often experience improvements in a wide range of issues—from headaches and neck pain to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and sciatica. And while it can help with recovery, chiropractic care is just as valuable when used as a preventative measure.
“It’s not usually something one visit will magically fix,” Dr. Cluck said. “It’s a lifestyle choice, just like eating healthy or exercising. A lot of our patients come in for regular care to prevent injuries and keep feeling their best.”
That whole-body approach extends to the other services offered at Back to Health. Massage therapy, for example, isn’t just about relaxation. It’s used to help increase circulation, reduce stress, and speed up the body’s natural healing process. The clinic also works in collaboration with other healthcare professionals—physical therapists, athletic trainers, medical doctors, and more—to tailor care plans to each patient’s specific needs.
Dr. Cluck’s deep roots in Doniphan County are a big part of what makes her practice feel so personal. “Growing up here and coming back to raise my own family has been such a blessing,” she said. “Some of the people I treat now I’ve known since birth. Others were my teachers, high school rivals, or neighbors. Many have become like family.”
That sense of connection has been one of the greatest joys of her career, and it’s part of why Back to Health has remained a trusted part of the community for nearly 24 years.
As for the future, Dr. Cluck says the focus remains on serving the community to the best of their ability. While Back to Health isn’t expanding at the moment, there’s exciting news on the horizon. A sister business, Back to Fitness, will soon open in downtown Wathena, offering locals a new place to exercise and take another step toward better health.
“We’re just trying to put more pieces of the puzzle together,” Dr. Cluck said. “It’s all about creating a healthier community.”
And with that same focused, heartfelt approach that has guided her since the beginning, Dr. Heather Cluck and Back to Health are doing just that—one adjustment, one conversation, and one person at a time.
