Facts:
• Colorectal cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer-related deaths among both men and women in the United States.

• Colorectal cancer affects people of all genders and ethnic backgrounds.

• Some cases of colorectal cancer are hereditary, meaning they can be passed down through families.

⚠️ Knowing the Warning Signs

🚨Persistent abdominal discomfort (cramps,gas or pain)
🚨Blood in stool
🚨Bowel Changes
🚨Fatigue or Weakness
🚨Unexplained weight loss
🚨A feeling that the bowel does not empty completely

Reminder: Early screening and detection can save lives. Talk to your healthcare provider about when you should begin screening.

Delights!

We started the practice of sharing "delights" in our waiting room.

Join us in telling each other of the small joys, the little glimmers, smidges of awesomness, or bits of goodness that happen on the daily. Whether it is experiencing a moment of connection, realizing the beauty of nature, or witnessing a hilarous, cute, or kind act--we'd love to hear about it! Pop in and put it on the board!

This concept is based on The Book of Delights by author Ross Gay, which emphasises finding the joy in the small, the hard, and the routine.

We hope you'll join us in this practice of focusing on the joy---which relates to two of the pillars of lifestyle medicine; social connection and stress management!

Q: What's the most common comment you get from patients in your waiting room?
A: OMG, these African Violets are amazing!

So, we share some background for the curious:

The African Violets 🌺 in our waiting room are propagations from the one and only Jeanne Honan, Dr. Schamel's grandmother. We like to think that these flowers, which are known to symbolize committment and devotion, thrive in no short part to her spirit in our day to day. Jeanne was a mother to 8, a volunteer for many community and civic organizations, and tireless advocate for special needs children. She showed up for her people, and seeing these flowers reminds us that we can do the hard things too.

(And also, our rec: bottom watering planters/moderate indirect sun 😉)
