Skill-Building Yoga Workshop: Inversions
Sunday, March 15 | 2:00–3:30 PM

This specialty workshop explores inversions with an emphasis on strength, stability, and control.

In this 90-minute class, we will break down inversion work step by step, using targeted strength training, mobility, and optional props to support a safe and sustainable inversion practice. You will learn how to build strong foundations, understand common limitations, and approach inversions with greater awareness and confidence.

This workshop is ideal for students who want to feel stronger upside down, improve their confidence with inversions, or build a more intentional and supported practice.

All levels welcome. No inversion experience required.

March Pose on the Month: Dolphin Pose

Build strength, stability, and confidence upside down.

Dolphin Pose is a foundational inversion that strengthens the shoulders, core, and upper body while preparing you for headstands, forearm stands, and other inversion work.

How to Get Into the Pose
• Start in tabletop
• Lower down to forearms, elbows under shoulders
• Press firmly through forearms and tuck toes
• Lift hips up and back like Down Dog
• Walk feet in slightly to stack hips over shoulders
• Keep gaze toward feet, neck relaxed

How to Come Out
• Slowly walk feet back
• Lower knees to the mat
• Rest in Child’s Pose

Modifications
• Lower knees for support
• Shorten your stance
• Use a block or wall for stability

Be Mindful Of
• Collapsing into the shoulders
• Elbows splaying wide
• Overarching the low back
• Holding your breath

March Member of the Month: Brittany

Brittany first found Lotus while visiting Wire Park. She had always wanted to try hot yoga, and after her first Hot Power Flow with Ally, she was hooked. When she learned that Lotus would be adding a reformer studio, she was thrilled — it had been years since she practiced on a reformer, and she loves having both yoga and Pilates available in one convenient place.

What Brittany loves most about her practice is how it challenges her both mentally and physically. She appreciates that every class and instructor brings something unique, so no two classes are ever the same. Her favorite class is Hot Yoga Sculpt (Pilates Fusion) — the perfect (and most challenging!) combination of yoga and Pilates. She also loves Half Moon in yoga and Teaser on the reformer.

Although Brittany has often felt intimidated by traditional gyms, she knew immediately that Lotus was different. She noticed people of all ages and at various stages in their fitness journeys, which made the space feel welcoming and encouraging. What has kept her coming back for the past two years is the instructors. The encouragement from Lauren and the entire teaching team, whether it’s a simple check-in text or a shout-out in class to celebrate an achievement, means more than she can say.

Brittany and her family relocated to Watkinsville from Atlanta three years ago for work and were excited to return to the Athens area, which holds a special place in their hearts. She and her husband have two children, Jules (11) and Jane (9). When they’re not at practices and games, they love to travel, attend UGA sporting events, and go to concerts. As Brittany says, the live music scene in Athens simply can’t be beat.

We love having Brittany as a part of the Lotus Family. Help us congratulate her!

Book Club this Sunday!

Join us for a cozy, slow-paced gathering that blends gentle movement, quiet reading time, and restorative self-care. Each session begins with a 15-minute gentle flow to settle the body and clear the mind, followed by 45 minutes of peaceful, individual reading. We’ll close with a grounding 15-minute flow to help you unwind and reset.

Hot calming tea and light snacks will be provided to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

No required book picks, no discussion pressure - just calm, community, and space to breathe.
