A great resource for all!

“One either allows racial inequities to persevere, as a racist, or confronts racial inequities, as an antiracist. There is no in-between safe space of “not racist.” The claim of “not racist” neutrality is a mask for racism.”

There are many factors that underly the addiction process. Uncovering the truths about your pain, discomfort and disconnection is essential for recovery. One area that many people struggle with in their youth (and adulthood) that is an underpinning of addiction is gender identity. Without adequate role models, 'awake' parents or therapists, or inclusive communities, people are left feeling isolated and lost. Escaping with alcohol, other drugs, food and s*x are some of the coping tools in which people who are isolated and disconnected engage. Finding supportive therapists, friends and communities is essential. This podcast is a great beginning step for anyone wanting to understand non-binary gender identity. I'm happy to help anyone find resources for themselves, parents or partners in order to create a more inclusive and affirming experience.

I know I’ve been silent on this page for awhile. I’m one of those white people who have immersed themselves in reading, viewing and listening to Black Americans - their stories, lived experiences, ideas, opinions and perspectives. My eyes, ears, and heart are open wide. I will start posting again and my hope is to contribute to the awakening of white America. As always, I will also continue to post about sobriety, addiction, mental HEALTH, trauma, and all things recovery - albeit through a more inclusive lens. ❤️

Some good news! “The largest online course ever is four times larger than these examples having just passed the 10 million student mark. The topic? Alcohol abuse prevention. And, no, that’s not a typo.”

The largest online course in the world will come as a surprise to most. It's also a timely example for how we can strive for world-class quality online education in the age of Covid-19.

Creativity is an antidote to consumption. Check this awesome offering by a fabulous writing teacher and WRITE YOUR OWN STORY of this wild and crazy world we are living in!

Dear friends … I have a gift for you, for these times, because in 25 years when a young person turns to us and asks, “What was it like when the virus came? What did you do? How did you live?” people like me, and maybe you, will have taken some notes. Writing feels important now, partly because...

“ It’s common sense that anything you inhale that has been combusted and contains particles or chemicals can inflame your airways .... so you’re already making your body fight off foreign particles before it even has to fight off the infection.”

If you aren’t using, don’t start. If you are smoking or va**ng, and you get sick, make sure your caregivers know you smoke/vape. Use tools, support to cut back or quit. Give your lungs a fighting chance!

You may think that an occasional hit of w**d during the coronavirus pandemic isn't an issue, but even that could make it more difficult for doctors to diagnose you with Covid-19. And more frequent use puts you at risk for severe complications.

A wonderful reminder to bring back serenity... focus on what you CAN control ...

This is a reminder for adults and kids during these uncertain times. Focus on things you can control to ease the burden of those you cannot.

Also, grab a free take home packet for students to work on anxiety, self-control, gratitude and positivity.

Stay safe, be cautious but considerate, and family (if not in your home) may have to be by phone or face time for a while. 💜

Getting sober is sometimes the easy part - staying sober, the hard part. Finding more adventure, joy and spirit in your life is essential for long-lasting sobriety. What are some of the ways that you find joy in your life today, as a sober person? How is it different than when you were drinking/using? We feel 'joy' when we release the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin in our bodies. Playing, laughing, smiling, exercising, trying new and novel activities can all bring about a surge of neurotransmitters that translate to joy.

TIP FOR TODAY: Purposefully - mindfully - do something this week that makes you smile and laugh. Watch a comedy, laugh at yourself, do something silly, seek out your funniest friend and hang out. Notice how you feel in your body when you are experiencing joy. Repeat as often as you like!
