Omega-3 fatty acids are a great way of supporting heart health and can be found in many WIC-approved foods! You can find them in:

🐟 Canned fish like salmon and tuna
🍳 Eggs and soy products like tofu
🥑 Brussels sprouts and avocados

Omega-3 fats have also been shown to be important during pregnancy, as they are important building blocks of the fetal brain and retina. These foods can help reduce inflammation, lower blood pressure, and support eye health! 💕

🌱 Another Fit Families Gardening Success!

The latest Fit Families Garden Container Event was a blooming success! WIC hosted a total of 22 children and 12 parents/grandparents. Activities included a garden craft, temporary tattoos (including super-hero fruits and garden bugs), taste-testing (featuring peppers and tomatoes), selecting packets from library’s seed library and signing up for library cards - growing more than just plants! 🌱📖

📚 Storytime with Miss Rachel from the Waukesha Public Library brought garden tales to life, while Master Gardener Mrs. K (Alysia Kniaz) guided little green thumbs through planting their own cherry tomato or lunchbox pepper plants. Even when the rain rolled in, we made it work—shifting indoors so the kids could still dig in and get their hands dirty!

Huge thanks to everyone who made this event possible. These moments make healthy habits fun, one garden at a time! 💚
