Unmasking Brain Injury

What do you think of this mask?

What do you think this mask represents?
Take a look at the colors used, where they are placed and the shapes used.

How could you use this mask to represent your brain injury story?

Stay tuned, tomorrow we will reveal the brain injury survivor behind this mask and what the actual meaning is.

When Marty Foil, Executive Director of Hinds’ Feet Farm, received the February 2015 edition of his National Geographic subscription, a light bulb went off in his head. In that edition, there was an article (from the National Intrepid Center of Excellence) describing an art project geared toward soldiers who had sustained a traumatic brain injury. The masks produced were vibrant and healing works of art.

The goal of the Unmasking Brain Injury Project is community awareness and education. This occurs when the masks are displayed in the community for the public to see.

This display is a partnership between the Brain Injury Resource Center of Wisconsin and Hinds Feet Farm.

There are 19 masks and counting! Contact us today by calling (262) 770-4882 or by sending an email to admin@bircofwi.org and we can bring this display to your location!

We will see you soon! Are here until 1:00 p.m.

Katie is a regular volunteer at the Brain Injury Resource Center of Wisconsin and she is part of RISE “Respect, Include, Serve and Empower” also! Katie brings her bubbly personality and spreads cheer with this group as she does the same for us.

Katie M. takes center stage as our RISE participant spotlight. Katie's involvement with the YMCA and her commitment to a twice-daily workout regimen have rendered her a familiar face in the community, a fact further underscored by her dynamic personality! Katie's personality is exceptionally vibrant, reminiscent of a sunny day. 🌞
Here is some information about Katie:

Katie Marshall is a Traumatic Brain Injury survivor. She was a Northern Michigan University senior working as an intern reporter when she suffered her injury in a car accident. A daredevil who bungee jumped, scuba dived, parasailed and white water rafted by the age of 18, she had to re-learn how to walk and talk after the TBI. She loves RISE because she enjoys the friendships she’s made there, and she especially loves cooking. Social interaction is important to her as she loves to stay busy. RISE also improves her sense of independence.
