Commonheart chaplains provide education, spiritual support, and guidance for patients and their families throughout the care journey. Chaplain Tom recently led a roundtable discussion at the Fort Atkinson Senior Center on identifying grief and healthy ways to navigate it. Commonheart remains committed to supporting not only those in our care, but also the people who care about them.

On the last day of National Volunteer Week, we highlight our final Commonheart volunteer who wished to be featured on social media.

Our spotlight is on Bob, a veteran who generously shares his time through regular companionship visits. During these visits, he helps people reminisce about cherished memories, dive into favorite topics like family or sports, or simply enjoy a friendly conversation. For Bob, each visit is a chance to brighten someone’s day and offer a moment of connection and positivity.

Thank you to all of the volunteers who help us serve those in our care with compassion and kindness.

Real change does not happen without action. Commonheart President Justin Munzel stood alongside fellow Wisconsin providers, including Illuminus President Ken Smith, on Capitol Hill during LeadingAge Lobby Day 2026 to advocate for seniors, families, caregivers, and the communities we serve and those we have yet to serve.

Advocacy is central to Commonheart’s strategic priorities. Advancing workforce solutions and payment reform is essential to ensuring people receive the care and support they deserve not only today, but for generations to come. The momentum is building, and we are committed to driving meaningful change.

Commonheart is proud to continue highlighting the incredible volunteers who donate their time and talents to make a difference.

Our next spotlight is on Dana, a resident with Illuminus since 1995. Dana began volunteering at The Marquardt and more recently has shared her time with Commonheart. Over the years, she has organized activities for fellow residents, including cards, bingo, and holiday events. Behind the scenes, she has also contributed through clerical tasks such as data entry, assembling binders, and mailing obituaries. You may recognize Dana from various videos showcasing her dedication as a volunteer.

While not all of our volunteers wish to be featured on social media, we are excited to continue celebrating more of these amazing individuals.

Our next spotlight is on Jean. Her journey with Commonheart began after her personal experiences with hospice care for her son, mother, and brother. Wanting to support others through similar challenges, Jean now helps families through our bereavement program, making follow-up calls two and thirteen months after a loved one has passed. She listens, shares memories, and offers comfort, sometimes laughing, sometimes crying alongside them.

In addition, Jean visits LindenGrove Waukesha, bringing companionship and meaningful conversation each week. Her dedication and compassion make a lasting impact on the families and residents she serves.

While not all of our volunteers wish to be featured on social media, we are excited to continue celebrating more of these amazing individuals.

Commonheart is grateful for the important work of our Administrative Assistants and our Executive Assistant, who each play a key role in supporting our teams and keeping daily operations running smoothly.

Our Administrative Assistants support staff and residents, help manage communication, and keep things organized across the organization. Our Executive Assistant, Erica, provides dedicated support at the leadership level, helping coordinate priorities and keep everything aligned behind the scenes.

While only Erica wished to be featured, we want to recognize and sincerely thank all of our administrative professionals for the work they do every day. Their impact is felt throughout Commonheart in meaningful ways.

Please join us in showing appreciation for all of our administrative professionals, whether by phone or in person. Happy Administrative Professionals Day and Earth Day!

Our next spotlight is on Wendy. Guided by her Catholic faith, she finds joy in visiting individuals who often spend much of their day alone, offering companionship, comfort, and peace. Through simple moments of connection, Wendy reminds each person they are cared for, believing that small acts of love can ensure no one feels alone and allow God’s light to shine.

While not all of our volunteers wish to be featured on social media, we are excited to continue celebrating more of these amazing individuals in the coming days.

Our next spotlight is on Sandy. Sandy experienced firsthand the compassion and support that hospice services provide when a family member received hospice care in 2008. Although she had previously worked in hospitals and was familiar with these services, she was deeply moved by the level of care offered during such a difficult time. Since then, she has felt a strong desire to give back.

That opportunity came in the summer of 2025, when a connection through her pastor led her to a hospice chaplain. After reaching out, Sandy began volunteering with Commonheart and now makes weekly visits to the hospice patients she serves. She cherishes the time she spends with them and says the visits bring her just as much joy in return.

While not all of our volunteers wish to be featured on social media, we are excited to continue celebrating more of these amazing individuals in the coming days.

Our next spotlight is on Sue. Sue began volunteering with Commonheart because of a family connection. She visits those on hospice to bring joy, conversation, and a little diversion to their day. Hearing their stories and learning about their lives and families makes each visit meaningful for both Sue and those she serves.

While not all of our volunteers wish to be featured on social media, we are excited to continue celebrating more of these amazing individuals.

The hardest time to make a major healthcare decision is in the middle of a crisis. Most people wait until they are forced to look into home health or hospice services, but the best time to accept help is before an emergency happens.

By choosing these services early, you maintain control over your care and your future. Most home-based services are covered by insurance and allow for professional wound care, lab draws, and physician collaboration to happen in your own living room.

Don't wait for a medical setback to dictate your options. Take control of your future by looking into home health or hospice services today.
