Roman and Beanie: Commonheart Volunteers

Motivated to make a positive impact while balancing a busy work schedule and life with his dog Beanie, Roman decided to volunteer with Commonheart. Volunteering felt like a meaningful way to give back, and finding an opportunity where he could serve alongside Beanie made the decision easy. Together, they joined the Commonheart Volunteer program as a therapy team, guided by compassion, consistency, and a shared love of connecting with others.

At St. Anne’s in Milwaukee, Roman and Beanie provide companionship visits, spending time with residents who eagerly look forward to seeing them. Beanie’s friendly and easygoing nature brings comfort and joy, often becoming the highlight of a resident’s week. Through these visits, Roman has grown more patient and compassionate, learning to slow down and meet people where they are. He values the importance of consistency and showing up as promised, knowing that even when details fade, the feeling of joy remains.
