Small actions add up to BIG preparedness.

Our many HHS Preparedness Teams and Partners showcased their expertise during Preparedness Day, while also recruiting new members to build even stronger teams. Alongside our community partners, staff explored hands-on demonstrations and trainings—from fire safety to emergency response. The day even featured a LIVE broadcast from a the WTMJ storm chaser right from our HHS building. Staff walked away with new skills and fresh ways to strengthen preparedness across Waukesha County.

Breaking Buzz: Waukesha County has confirmed a case of West Nile Virus.

Don’t worry—there’s no need to panic, but it is a good reminder that mosquitoes are still hanging around in September.

✅ Wear insect repellent
✅ Dump standing water (even small amounts!)
✅ Cover up when outdoors, especially at dawn & dusk

Despite what you’ve heard, mosquitoes are not the state bird of Wisconsin—so let’s all do our part to keep the buzz down. 😉
