Freedom for the Captives seeks to empower the Christian community to respond with excellence to the sin of child abuse. To this end, we provide resources to pastors, teachers, and lay Christians that will deepen their understanding of child abuse and improve the Christian response to the physical, emotional and spiritual impact of maltreatment. We also have resources for survivors including recommended readings and guidance in selecting counseling or other services. In addition to the resources on our website, we also offer direct assistance to individual survivors who may have a spiritual question not addressed on our website or who need assistance in finding a counselor. Freedom for the Captives is a ministry of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS).

My group of friends also gives me the gift of vulnerability. They have provided me with a safe place where I can go whenever I’m struggling, and they will be there to help carry me and my burden. I’ve shared a lot of very intimate details with them, and not once have they reacted with disgust. They are my brothers. They love me. And I am so grateful for the gift of being vulnerable in their midst.

Here’s the specific lie that has imprisoned my mind ever since I experienced sexual abuse...
