My passion is helping people maintain or grow in their healthy and active lifestyle. When an acute or nagging injury limits activity and movement it can have a ripple effect through your whole system and well-being. While we treat the acute area of pain and inflammation, our primary goal is to find the root cause so that overtime it doesn’t become a recurring issue. Is there a muscle imbalance? Often an area of tightness or weakness can make an entire area of our body change how it moves without us even being aware until an area breaks down and becomes painful.
At Pathways our out-of-network structure allows us not only to treat injuries which limit function but also allows us to perform preventative screens or to look for the cause at the first sign of something not being quite right. Our structure puts our clients in the driver’s seat to maintain their function to live their best life!

Wanting to improve YOUR athletic performance and find ways to decrease injury risk?
YES, We do that too!

Most performance programs are designed as a one size fits all even if they are sport specific. A physical therapy performance evaluation identifies your areas for improvement in strength, mobility and stability. A motion and strength assessment allows a program to be tailored for you specifically. You can utilize this information and progress with the therapist or take this information to your current trainer or program coordinator.

Reassessment throughout your program allows you to see growth and areas in need of further attention as you progress.

A physical therapist goal is to see you in the game. Better to prevent an injury and perform at your greatest potential than to be sidelined in the middle of the season!

Yes, we can help with that!
Often, when we think of physical therapy, we think of rehabilitation after a surgery or major injury but our services extend far beyond that! Over the next several weeks, I will highlight some of the many things that treatment at Pathways Physical Therapy can be beneficial in addressing.

A few of the many benefits of treatment at Pathways PT:
•Hands on treatment: while your treatment is often supported with an exercise or two that will reinforce your progress at home, treatment in centered around those things you are unable to do for yourself at home.
•Cause vs Effect: I search for the cause, not only treat the symptoms. Yes, that tight muscle may be what is causing your pain, but WHY does it keep getting tight?
•Accessibility: Being a sole practitioner allows for flexibility in my schedule. I often am able to see you the same week. My online scheduling link,
http://pathways-physical-therapy-llc.square.site/
allows you to schedule your own appointment within my set availability. If you are unable to find an opening that works for you in the next few days, call or text the number provided and let’s see what we can work out!

10 tips to avoid back pain in a sedentary job
Avoiding back pain in a sedentary job requires proactive measures to promote good posture, reduce strain on the spine, and incorporate movement into your daily routine. Here are ten tips to help prevent back pain:
Maintain good posture: Sit up straight with your shoulders relaxed, and keep your feet flat on the floor. Use a chair with proper lumbar support to help maintain the natural curve of your spine.
Take regular breaks: Stand up, stretch, and walk around every 30 minutes to an hour to prevent stiffness and relieve pressure on your back.
Use ergonomic furniture: Invest in a comfortable chair and an adjustable desk that allows you to change positions throughout the day, such as standing or using a kneeling chair.
Adjust your workstation: Position your computer monitor at eye level to reduce neck strain, and place frequently used items within easy reach to avoid twisting or reaching awkwardly.
Practice proper lifting techniques: When lifting objects, bend your knees and keep your back straight. Lift with your legs rather than your back to avoid straining the muscles.
Strengthen your core muscles: Incorporate exercises that target the muscles of your abdomen, back, and pelvis to improve stability and support for your spine.
Stay active outside of work: Engage in regular physical activity such as walking, swimming, or yoga to strengthen muscles, improve flexibility, and reduce the risk of back pain.
Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your spinal discs hydrated and maintain their shock-absorbing properties.
Use proper body mechanics: Be mindful of how you sit, stand, and move throughout the day. Avoid slouching, crossing your legs for extended periods, or twisting your spine unnecessarily.
Manage stress: Practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or mindfulness to reduce muscle tension and alleviate stress, which can contribute to back pain.
By incorporating these tips into your daily routine, you can help prevent back pain and promote overall spinal health, even in a sedentary job. Remember to listen to your body and seek medical attention if you experience persistent or severe back pain despite these preventative measures.

Choosing the right pillow is crucial for individuals experiencing neck pain, as it can significantly affect sleep quality and alleviate discomfort. A pillow that properly supports the natural curvature of the neck and spine is essential for maintaining proper alignment and relieving pressure on sensitive structures. For individuals with neck pain, pillows that provide adequate support and conform to the contours of the neck are typically recommended. Memory foam pillows are often preferred for their ability to mold to the shape of the neck and head, providing customized support and promoting proper spinal alignment. Memory foam pillows also distribute weight evenly, reducing pressure points and allowing muscles to relax, which can help alleviate neck pain and stiffness.
Furthermore, pillows with an adjustable loft or firmness level can be beneficial for individuals with neck pain, as they allow for personalized comfort and support based on individual preferences and sleeping positions. Some people may find relief with contoured pillows specifically designed to support the cervical spine, while others may prefer pillows with a slightly higher loft to maintain proper alignment when sleeping on their side. Additionally, pillows made from hypoallergenic materials can be beneficial for individuals with allergies or sensitivities. Ultimately, the best pillow for neck pain will depend on individual factors such as sleeping position, preferences, and the underlying cause of the pain, so it may be helpful to consult with a healthcare professional for personalized recommendations.

Foam rollers are highly effective tools for relieving muscle pain and aiding in recovery due to their ability to perform self-myofascial release (SMR). Myofascial release involves applying pressure to specific areas of muscle tightness or trigger points to release tension and improve blood flow, ultimately promoting muscle relaxation and reducing pain. Foam rolling works by breaking up adhesions and knots in the fascia, the connective tissue that surrounds muscles, allowing for better movement and flexibility. This process can help alleviate soreness and stiffness caused by overuse, injury, or intense physical activity, making foam rollers particularly beneficial for athletes and individuals with active lifestyles.
Furthermore, foam rolling can enhance the body's natural healing mechanisms by increasing circulation to the muscles, which delivers oxygen and nutrients necessary for tissue repair and recovery. By improving blood flow and reducing muscle tension, foam rolling can also help prevent injuries and improve overall performance. Additionally, foam rolling can promote better mobility and range of motion, allowing individuals to move more freely and efficiently during exercise or daily activities. Incorporating foam rolling into a regular self-care routine can therefore support muscle health, reduce the risk of injury, and optimize physical performance.
