Constipated? Sluggish bowels? Bloated?

Colon massage may help provide some relief. There are a few ways to do colon massage. I’ve demonstrated a simple technique that starts in the lower right abdominal quadrant, and follows the path of the large intestine to the left lower abdominal quadrant. I usually start with a lighter pressure, but after a couple of passes, I increase the pressure.

This technique can be performed on a variety of ages, spanning from children to older adults. It can be performed once or twice daily for a couple of minutes.

Pelvic floor physical therapy can also be a great resource for those dealing with bowel issues including constipation. We have other techniques that can improve bowel function.

And please, Check with your medical provider before performing this type of massage. It is not meant to cure constipation and should not hurt. If you have pain at all, please seek medical care.

Yes! You do not have to restrict your exercise when you have a prolapse. There’s no research to show that exercise makes your prolapse worse in the long run (pun intended).

if you feel more pressure heaviness with exercise, then you can always get fitted for a pessary. What is a pessary? It is basically an orthotic device for your pelvic organs. It looks like a ring or a disk that gets inserted into the va**na and helps to keep the organs lifted during increased pressure, like that with exercise.

You can also improve your body mechanics or breathing pattern to decrease prolapse symptoms. Your local pelvic floor therapist can help you out with that.

Let’s talk constipation! Did you know that pelvic floor therapy can help with constipation? I will often see people for other pelvic floor related issues, and we uncover that constipation is the triggers for their symptoms.

Some pelvic floor issues that can be worsened by constipation include:
-over active bladder
-prolapse
-abdominal pain
-pelvic pain (painful in*******se)
-urinary and f***l incontinence
-bed wetting (for the kiddos)

There’s a lot you can do to help manage constipation, including get more exercise, massage your abdomen, improve your diet, drink more water, and take magnesium.

The calm powder from the picture is one of my favorite go to’s for magnesium. Most peoples diets are deficient in magnesium these days. Adding in magnesium citrate or magnesium oxide can help to improve your magnesium level and push your p**p through!

If you’re dealing with constipation or any other pelvic floor related issue, contact us to schedule your complementary phone consult! We can help you! We take clients in person in central Wisconsin and offer telehealth services to all of Wisconsin.

* please check with your doctor or healthcare professional before taking any additional supplement or changing your diet. There may be side effects or interactions that would be adverse to your health.

After listening to with , I’ve learned so much more about the latest on gut health. I found some of the research on exercise particularly interesting.

Just 15 minutes of strength training every day can change your microbiome, which can lead to a host of health benefits, including decreased inflammation.

The university of Nottingham published a study finding that 15 minutes of exercise over a 6 week period decreased inflammatory substances (cytokines) and increased endocannabinoids by changing the microbiome. This study actually shows how exercise can be anti-inflammatory!

So, we can use exercise as a part of a holistic approach to improve gut health!

Happy baby pose!

This position is AMAZING for pelvic pain. This hip opener puts the pelvic floor in a position to promote lengthening and relaxation. I love giving out this position for pelvic spasms, high tone pelvic floor, and painful s*x.

Can’t reach your feet? Try grabbing your knees instead!

Kegels, AKA pelvic floor contractions, are the go-to exercises for the pelvic floor during pregnancy. But, are they truly appropriate?

Sometimes!

Kegels can be great for strengthening your pelvic floor earlier in your pregnancy, optimally before the third trimester IF you have a normal pelvic floor muscle function and no pelvic floor related pain.

As your pregnancy progresses, and you move into the third trimester, it is more important to be able to lengthen the pelvic floor muscles to allow for delivery. Those pelvic floor muscles have to relax and open so the baby can come out.

At Evolve Pelvic Wellness, we help you prepare your body for pregnancy and for birth. We offer a comprehensive, holistic birth prep program so you can feel empowered and prepared for birth. So, if you’re not sure how to relax those muscles for birth, schedule an appointment so we can help!

Mind blown! Just finished a lecture from with Dr Mona Orady on endometriosis and it was packed with helpful info. She is brilliant.

One way too common symptom she sees with her endometriosis patients is period pain starting before bleeding. So, if you get period cramps one or more days before your period starts, it could be a sign of endometriosis.

And remember, pelvic floor therapy is an essential part of managing endo, so keep us in mind when assembling your team!

Pelvic Pain Awareness Month! Let’s talk endo!
Most people don’t realize how common endometriosis is. It’s reported prevalence is 1 in 10! That’s a huge number of people! although endometriosis is super common, it’s very under diagnosed and symptoms are often dismissed by the medical community. It takes an average of 10 years to get a diagnosis.

common symptoms of endometriosis include (but def not limited to):
*Severe pain during your period
*painful s*x
*pelvic, abdominal, or low back pain that may or may not be cyclical
* pain with bowel movements or other G.I. related issues like constipation or IBS
*fatigue
*infertility

Diagnosis can only be made through laparoscopic surgery at this time. So, if your doctor didn’t find any signs of endometriosis on your ultrasound, that doesn’t mean you don’t have it.

Pelvic floor therapy can be an essential part of your team to help with symptom management. Pelvic therapy can help with movement strategies, muscle coordination, pain relief, surgical recovery, scar management and more. We also can help with finding providers to create your team.

has amazing resources for those struggling with endo. We refer to their resources constantly. You can also use their provider search to find endometriosis specialists near you!

Child’s pose can be a great yoga pose to help lessen pelvic pain. I often have clients relax into child’s pose over some pillows or a bolster. It helps to elongate and stretch the spine, relax the tailbone, and stretch the hips. It is absolutely amazing for those who have trouble relaxing the back end of their pelvis (re**al or deep pelvic floor).

You would benefit from this stretch if you have:
Re**al spasms
Re**al or tailbone pain
Low back pain
Constipation
Pain with s*x
Abdominal pain
Urgency or frequency

As always, if you have any of these issues or want to learn more, reach out to us! We see pelvic floor clients in Central Wisconsin!

This is motherhood. Sometimes it’s not pretty. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done. But my two beautiful children are so worth it.

It’s pelvic pain awareness month! These are my two favorite stretches for pelvic pain.

Butterfly: lay on the ground with your knees and feet together with knees bent. Then, let your knees fall to the side. Lay in this position for a few minutes working on some deep breathing to help increase blood flow into the pelvis and decrease pain.

Piriformis Stretch: Lay on your back with your knees bent. Place your ankle on your opposite thigh and bring that opposite leg up towards your chest. Hold for a minute or two, then repeat other You will love these stretches if you have…Non-relaxing pelvic floor muscles, pain with s*x, sacroiliac pain, tailbone pain, p***c symphysis dysfunction, low back pain, urinary frequency/overactive bladder, or re**al spasms.

Stay tuned for more of my favorites!

It’s pelvic pain awareness month! Let’s talk poses for pelvic pain. My favorite stretch is called butterfly. When you get into a butterfly, you can perform it supported, with pillows under your knees, or unsupported, like I do in the video. Basically, you lay down, put your knees and feet together, and then let your knees drop to the sides. Simple enough. Then, take nice deep breaths in and out in this position, focusing on relaxing your whole body. You can stay there for as little as 1 minute or as long as 10 minutes.

This stretch can be helpful for…
-low back pain or sacroiliac joint pain
-abdominal pain
-p***c symphysis dysfunction
-pain with s*x
-bladder pain
-overactive pelvic floor
-constipation
… and more!

Stay tuned for more helpful tips on pelvic pain this month!

May is pelvic pain awareness month. So many of us experience pelvic pain over the course of our lifespan, and yet it is rarely discussed and very under diagnosed.

Pelvic pain can be experienced in and around the pelvic area, and can include pain in the abdominal area, low back, sacroiliac joints, tailbone, p***c bone, groin area, hips, and internal organs. Basically, it can include pain experienced anywhere around the pelvis. Pelvic pain is unique and that it can affect bladder, bowel, and s*xual function. So, if you have pain with s*x or pain with bladder filling, you have pelvic pain.

Over the next month, we will dive into different types of pelvic pain and explore treatment options.

Pelvic floor physical therapy is one treatment option for pelvic pain. If you have specific questions about your individual pain, don’t hesitate to reach out!
