***4/18/26 12:30 PM UPDATE****
River Road from County Road J to Abbey Street is now open to Residents and Contractors Only. Law enforcement will ask for proof of residency or contractor status before permitting entry. Other areas remain closed while crews work to restore utilities and make the area safe for re-entry. Crews have made great progress and are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore service.

We continue to ask volunteers to not report to the Ringle area at this time. We will continue to provide updates as progress continues and needs change.

Thank you for your patience and continued support.

The outpouring of support and offers of assistance since yesterday’s storm have truly been heartwarming. At the request of Ringle Fire Chief Chris Kielman and to assist us to serving the needs of Ringle residents in a safe and effective manner, volunteers are asked to not report to the Ringle area at this time. Marathon County Emergency Management is assessing the damage this morning and clean-up efforts cannot resume until the assessment has been completed.

Once the assessment has been completed, we will provide you with information on the types of assistance needed and where volunteers should report.

Thinking of everyone impacted by the tornado that touched down in Central & Eastern Marathon County this evening (Mosinee, Kronenwetter, Weston & Ringle areas). If you don't live in impacted areas, please avoid those areas tonight to allow emergency responders to do their jobs in helping residents impacted and ensuring the area is safe for cleanup efforts to begin. Please stay safe and vigilant as the storms wind down.

It’s tempting to go and check out the tornado damage, or go to offer help. Right now, please avoid those areas unless you live there. Those areas don’t need unwarranted traffic, gawkers, sightseeing. Emergency crews and neighbors will let you know when they need help. Thanks, and stay safe!

This April 13, 2026, program will address distracted and impaired driving, seatbelt use, and defensive driving while highlighting the real-life consequences of unsafe choices behind the wheel. Presented with care, this impactful event encourages awareness, responsibility, and meaningful conversation, equipping attendees with the knowledge and perspective needed to make safer decisions on the road.

We are proud to partner with the Grand Theater Wausau, Wausau Police Department, Wausau Fire Department, Kaytlyn Madison Thomas Memorial Foundation, and the Mental Health Collaborative for a powerful educational event focused on preventing crashes and saving lives. This program is part of The Grand's Community Health & Wellness Series and is free and open to the public thanks to generous sponsorship from Aspirus Health (the lead agency of Safe Kids MC) and the Wausau Early Birds Rotary Club.

Because inexperienced drivers have a higher rate of crashes, the event is geared toward young and new drivers and their families; however, drivers of any age or experience level are welcome to attend.

This event is advised for ages 14+. Parental guidance is encouraged.

Aspirus Wausau Hospital, 333 Pine Ridge Boulevard
