☀️ Summer is the perfect time to get playful with food! ☀️

Cut watermelon into fun shapes, freeze yogurt dots for cool treats, or let your child “paint” toast with pureed fruit. 🎨🍉

Sensory play with food is a great way to gently introduce picky eaters to new textures and tastes — plus, it’s FUN!

💡 Let them touch, smell, and explore at their own pace — mealtime is about more than just eating.

Looking for a creative (and screen-free!) activity that builds speech and language skills? Try this simple DIY game at home:

🖍️ Step 1: Grab some popsicle sticks and markers.
🎨 Step 2: Draw faces, animals, places, or everyday objects on each stick — the sillier, the better!
🎲 Step 3: Have your child randomly pick 2–3 sticks and work together to create a short story using those items.

For example:
🐸 + 🎩 + 🏖️ = “The frog in a fancy hat went to the beach!” 🐸👒🌊

This activity encourages:
✔️ Vocabulary growth
✔️ Sentence structure
✔️ Sequencing and storytelling
✔️ Imagination and flexible thinking

💛 It’s a fantastic way to support expressive language skills — and you might just end up laughing together the whole time!

Wishing all of our CFS families a safe, happy, and sensory-friendly 4th of July! Whether you're enjoying fireworks 🎆, a backyard BBQ 🍔, or just some quiet time at home, we hope the day is filled with fun and connection.

✨ Pro Tip: Noise-canceling headphones, a favorite comfort item, and a quiet exit plan can help little ones with sound sensitivities enjoy the festivities more comfortably!

🎆 Fireworks are fun… but not for everyone!

While many families look forward to the sparkle and boom of 4th of July celebrations, children with sensory sensitivities may find fireworks overwhelming — and that’s okay!

Here are a few simple strategies to help your child feel safe and supported during the festivities:
👂 Noise-canceling headphones – Muffle the loud pops and bangs
🧸 Bring a comfort item – A favorite stuffy, fidget, or blanket can offer calm
🧍‍♀️ Create a “quiet zone” – Whether it’s the car, a shaded spot, or even some noise-reducing earplugs and sunglasses, having a safe space ready can make all the difference
👀 Prep ahead – Watch a fireworks video together ahead of time and talk through what to expect

✨ And remember — it’s okay to leave early, skip the event entirely, or celebrate in your own way. Your child’s comfort and confidence matter most.
