Today, we want to extend a heartfelt thanks to Uchenna (many of you know her as Uno) for her service at Authentic! During her time with us as a midwifery student, she brought an innate ability to connect with people in a way that was both grounding and transformative. She always spoke words that needed to be heard, naming truths with compassion and clarity. She held space with grace, while also offering the kind of strength that gently challenges growth.

Uchenna shows up for women, babies, and families with her whole heart, and she left a lasting imprint on Authentic and on each of us and the families we serve.

While we will miss her presence in our daily rhythm (and weekend call shifts!) we know this is not goodbye. Our paths will cross again as we continue this shared calling—caring for our communities with intention, respect, and love.

Sometimes birth can be topsy-turvy; and sometimes when you stand on your head, a baby pops out! Authentic Baby #1457, sibling to #1205, was taking longer than Mama wanted. So after a few Spinning Babies maneuvers...Baby arrived within two minutes! Mom and Dad took the whole labor in stride and embraced everything that came their way with grace and calm. What an honor to serve this family once again!

We are SO excited to welcome Tricia Morrissey, CPM, LM as the newest member of our Authentic midwife team! As we continue to serve more families, we’re also intentionally growing our team so we can keep offering the same time, education, compassion, and support you’ve come to expect—through prenatal care, birth, and postpartum.

Tricia brings to Authentic a deep passion for autonomy, respect, and evidence-based care. She began her journey in 2009 as a volunteer doula in Chicago and has since supported hundreds of families. After training in doula care and childbirth education, she completed her midwifery education through the Midwest Maternal Child Institute and apprenticed at a busy birth center in Appleton, WI.

For nearly a decade, Tricia has served families across the Milwaukee area—including helping expand access to home birth for BadgerCare families in Southeast Wisconsin. Her care is grounded in trust, education, and respect, and we know you’ll feel that from the moment you meet her.

When she’s not supporting families, Tricia enjoys life with her husband, two children, and their dog—exploring Milwaukee, spending time in nature, and getting creative whenever she can.

Just in time in for Easter, this efficient first time mother did what she felt she couldn’t, just proving that when we think we can’t, we do! With Mom’s incredible power and strength, Baby #1456 surprised us all with their rapid arrival and waved hello on their way into the waters of the Sophia Suite. Immediate cries greeted the birth room as Mom and Dad wept tears of joy with prayers of gratitude for this sweet blessing. Welcome to the world Little One!

Authentic Baby #1455 was born under the stars of the Nest on a sunny Sunday afternoon to a mama who showed incredible strength and courage. With Dad speaking words of love and prayer over his family, they welcomed their new addition into their arms. Many thought they could guess the gender of this little one, but Baby had a surprise in store! These parents exemplified love and partnership throughout their labor and as new parents. We couldn't be more honored to care for you on this journey. ✨💕

A quiet night for a quiet birth. This mama trusted her body and the time given to find her rhythm in active labor. This alumni family labored instinctively with peace and calm in the Nest. Short moments of intensity in the warm blue waters brought Authentic Baby #1454, sibling to baby #1152, earthside. What an amazing honor to serve this family once again. Enjoy your rest under the stars! ✨ 💕

In years past, Baby #1174 was hesitant to arrive, waiting until a full audience was present to appreciate their birth. Tonight, with a brave father manning the wheel, sibling and Authentic Baby #1453 could barely wait, making a grand entrance moments after arrival to the center! As this strong mama held her baby for the first time she reveled in the beauty of birth and the power within. Welcome to the Authentic Family, Little One! ✨💕

Authentic Baby #1452 was born in the Nest to this first time mom who came in just the nick of time. A super fast first labor is unusual, but this mom relaxed into her body so well as she allowed baby to come. Dad caught his baby with the biggest smile ever; and so much hair!! After a "wild" night, these three are tucked in and enjoying a well-deserved rest under the stars. ✨ 💕

Hey there! I’m Marissa, a second‑year midwifery student at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College (SWTC) and the newest Student Midwife at Authentic Birth Center. I grew up in the Windy City, and today my life is a bustling blend of babies, microgreens, and fur‑baby cuddles; four adult children and two four‑legged sidekicks keep my heart (and my schedule) full!

I’m a Certified Birth, Postpartum, and Fertility Doula, an urban farmer who specializes in microgreens, and a budding herbalist who’s always hunting for the next plant‑based remedy. When I’m not elbow‑deep in birthwork, you’ll find me gardening, hiking, traveling, or crocheting the blues away.

My mission? To champion the autonomy of every pregnant and birthing person while fighting Black maternal and infant morbidity and mortality one empowered birth at a time. Let’s celebrate life, love, and a little laughter together!
