The latest measles outbreak is ongoing in Southern Utah.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has up to date measles outbreak information here: https://www.aap.org/en/patient-care/immunizations/immunizations-across-america/?srsltid=AfmBOoqkh28ODspPusdN7ytp78anTlgwq28RXAQou5wzYw_LqmogwpVX

Early first doses of measles vaccine can be given to infants 6 months and older if they are traveling to high risk areas. Similarly, early second doses are recommended for those traveling to high risk areas. While second doses are typically given at the 4 year well visit, they can be given as early as a month after the first dose.

Traveling for spring break? If you are going somewhere that is currently experiencing a measles outbreak, early measles vaccination may be an option. Typically the first dose is given at 1 year of age and the second dose at 4 years old. An early first dose can be given to infants as young as 6 months and and early 2nd dose can be given as soon as a month after the first. For children that have completed the two standard doses, no additional measles vaccinations are recommended.
