We are excited to spotlight Women for Sobriety, Inc., a recent Guthrie Community Benefit Grant awardee! With a $3,000 grant, they are supporting their mission to help women in Broome and Delaware counties overcome substance use disorders. Lend a helping hand and become a "Teacher's Pet" through our school supply drive, located in the lobby of Guthrie Cortland Medical Center and the First National Bank of Dryden, Cortland and Homer branches.

At the end of this drive, Rotary Club members will sort the donated items and join Guthrie leaders to deliver the supplies. Join us during the last week of donations by Friday, August 29, to make the school year special for students in Cortland and Homer counties!

This group is for parents and families who've experienced loss through miscarriage, stillbirth and newborn death. Congrats to Ann Marie Novak, RN, for winning the DAISY Award at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center!

"Ann Marie is a team player with a positive attitude who is willing to go to the extreme to make sure patients are well cared for and happy during their stay at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center," her nominator said. "Her hard work, dedication and positivity make her a deserving recipient of the DAISY Award as she is an extraordinary registered nurse. I am happy to have met and been under her care."

The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 due to complications of the autoimmune disease ITP. His family wanted to honor nurses like the ones who provided great care to their loved one, so they created the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

As a DAISY Award winner, Ann Marie received a certificate, a DAISY pin and the Healer's Touch sculpture, representing the bond between nurses and their patients. Honorees also receive benefits related to certification and scholarships.

Lysol wipes, soft tissues, sandwich baggies, pencil grips and flare pens are some of the most requested items for this year's Teacher's Pet School Supply Drive!

Join Guthrie Cortland Medical Center and the Rotary Club of Cortland and lend a hand becoming a "Teacher's Pet" by donating much-needed school supplies. We're asking donations be made by Friday, August 29, at the collections bins located at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center and The First National Bank of Dryden, Cortland and Homer branches.

Teachers are also grateful for the basics that every student needs, including pens, pencils, notebooks, paper, folders and binders.

At the end of this drive, Rotary Club members will sort and organize the donated items, and join Guthrie leaders to deliver the supplies to the Cortland and Homer school districts.
