𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗸? 🚗
Car sickness is common in children, but frequent or severe symptoms can sometimes be linked to how the brain processes balance (vestibular), vision, and body awareness information.

Try these tips:
• Offer water if age appropriate
• Use air recirculation to reduce odors
• Encourage deep breathing
• Use noise-canceling headphones or calming music
• Safely reduce visual input from side windows
• Allow gum chewing or an oral sensory tool if appropriate
• Take frequent breaks on long trips
• Avoid movies or reading if they worsen nausea
• Encourage balance and movement activities outside the car

If car sickness is frequent or impacts daily activities, a screening by one of our physical or occupational therapists may help identify underlying sensory or balance challenges. Give us a call today!

Sometimes signs of a delay can be mistaken for quirks or growing pains — but early support makes a big difference!

Watch for signs like:
🔹 Trouble imitating sounds
🔹 Limited vocabulary or poor clarity
🔹 Not combining words by 18 months
🔹 Hard to understand by age 2
🔹 Not speaking in sentences by age 3

Check out this fine motor activity list, perfect for those days when you're stuck inside on a cold winter day!

Neat pincer skills are a fine motor skill used in daily tasks like picking up small objects, turning the page of a book, threading a needle, picking up lint from your shirt, etc.

When we work on these skills in OT sessions, we should emphasize precision, control, and finger isolation, not speed. Quality of movement is more important than quantity.
