With Western medicine on the forefront of my mind I raised my children accordingly. The kids were constantly fighting the flu, ear infections every 3 weeks, colds, you name it. Antibiotics didn't seem to be helping much, and neither did 3 sets of ear tubes in one of my children. I was not working as a nurse, but in transportation. 15-16 years later I was introduced to Natural medicine when a new chiropractor in the area told my son to consume pineapple, for a sprained ankle, for the swelling...and it WORKED. Some years later I found a college teaching natural health. My passion to help people went from frustration with the current health practices to over-joyed enthusiasm with the knowledge I have obtained over the years. At the beginning of my college for Natural Health, my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. In panic, my mother called me and said,:Help me!!" I immediately evaluated her current diet, major changes had to be made and she was willing. I introduced herbs, supplements, Holistic M.D., and sought advice from the staff at the college I was enrolled in. I whole-heartedly believe that it was no coincidence that I was then studying "cancer" in college and had already took nutrition. The Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, MN, told her she had 3-6 weeks of life left, and they could do nothing. Hearing that surely didn't help her mental well-being and of hope. 5 months later she had me find a local M.D. just for peace of mind. The first visit was awesome, because we were blessed to get a M.D. who was truly concerned about the well-being of his patient and not politics and here-say. In his office, the M.D. read my mother's Mayo Clinic diagnosis and prognosis report, long after she should have been "dead." The doctor admitted to me, in private, later that upon entering the exam room with my mother for the first time he expected to see a very weak, fragile, and sick lady slouching in a wheelchair. To his surprise he, instead, found a lady still doing yard work, and exercising every day. He examined her, turned to me and said," I don't know what you are doing, but keep it up. I can't do anything for the cancer, so you deal with the cancer and I'll deal with pain management, O.K.? You tell me what tests you want run and how often, and I will do it." The hospital staff, included, were dumbfounded as to why her tests were showing improvement. They considered me a part of the TEAM, consulting with me, showing me test results, and mutually coming up with a plan of action. This is the way it should work in the medical field- TEAM WORK! No one's toes got stepped on and everyone learned from this experience. This is why I love Natural Health, new knowledge that actually compliments today's healthcare when done right, and done with the right attitude from the medical profession.
