The lower face works as a system.
The platysma, DAO, and mentalis muscles all play a role in how the lower face moves, rests, and ages.
• Platysma bands pull downward, contributing to heaviness through the jawline and neck.
• DAO (depressor anguli oris) pulls the corners of the mouth down.
• Mentalis affects the chin — creating dimpling, tension, and sometimes a “pushing up” effect.
When one muscle overpowers the others, it changes balance.
That’s why treating just one area doesn’t always give the best result.
👉🏻 In this video, the mentalis is intentionally not treated.
This allows you to see how the muscles interact and how untreated tension in one area can still influence the overall result.
When all three are treated together, the outcome is:
• More balance
• A softer resting expression
• A more supported lower face
Subtle adjustments.
But a meaningful difference. ✨
