This week we had a class on clearing clutter for the over 55+ community.

We talked about the struggles of letting go, some strategies to send something’s onto another life out of their homes. We talked about drinking beer, having friends over and crafting.
We talked about past partners, being a widow and managing homes and daily tasks.
We talked about family and legacy.
And they left with notes, smiles and happy.

My heart is full and they are working in their garages, closets and laundry rooms 🥰

Random thoughts on an afternoon…

As I was doing the laundry, I cleaned the lint catch. It was solid with dusty lint. After removing the handful of lint, it made me think.

Clutter is a lot like lint. It holds up the energy of a room (that’s a feng shui principle).
It takes away our energy using more of our daily allowed, energetic bandwidth. It’s similar to lint that way… it uses the energy that we have

When that energy gets used up things work slower. The load of laundry takes longer to dry. With clutter, our focus is slower.

So the next time that you do a load of wash and you clean off that lint catch, consider clearing off the top of a cabinet, inside a drawer and see how you feel!

Sometimes all we need is direction.

This client had me in for just that.

She was great at doing the work and had run into “I need to know what’s next and the steps to take me there”

She’s preparing to sell.
Shes lived in this home for many years raising a family.

This weekend she made room.

We celebrated her accomplishment.
And she’s got motivation to keep going.

I’m excited to see this home listed.
It’s the work of a tribe.

The real estate agent
The stager
The declutter expert

The painter
The cleaner
The mover

The family that spent a holiday helping.
The dumpster that got filled.
The donations hauled to a local charity

Moving isn’t for the faint of heart. It takes a village and it has been a honor being part of this project’s village.

It’s springtime and we all know about the drive to bring the renewal home.

Changing out closets from heavy coats and seaters to springtime dresses, lightweight pants and sandals.

It brings cleaning, rearranging and the occasional “I have been wearing this in THAT condition?”

This spring, honor the layers.

Each one has highs and lows as evidenced by what you will move, put away for next winter, and let go of.

Try to take a moment and reflect on the season of hibernation.

And embrace the change to a lighter season.

Recognizing the growth, changes Nd honoring those are part of the journey.

The juice of life is our history. And our homes are living archives of us.

You’ve got this.

Preparation is something that we need for almost everything that we do.
To take a hot shower, you have to turn the water on hot and give it a moment to get hot.
To go for a walk, you have to put your shoes on.
To give a TedX talk you have to do a lot of practice, shopping for some new clothes, getting your hair done!

Getting ready to declutter also require requires preparation.
Sometimes it means getting the boxes in the bags before you get started. Sometimes it means talking with somebody and creating a game plan. Sometimes it means just getting in the mindset of letting go.

Whatever you’re preparing for today, you’re paving the way for success!

I know it’s scary to even talk with an organizer. There are so many questions!!

How much is the big question.
How long does it take?
Do I need to work with you?
How many people will be in my home?

What I hear?

I’m not comfortable having strangers in my home touching things and judging me.

I’m super busy and making time to be with you means I have to make schedule changes an might face judgement in real time.

How much is the cost of staying in the same place vs making some changes in my life.

Change is hard. Decluttering can be work and the result is freedom and happiness. It does have a cost and every project is different.
We have helped smaller projects from $300 to monster projects with multiple layers to $10,000.

Every project is unique and requires different sets of preparation and planning. Each is strategic for that project.

Some need additional help from a mover, trash pick up or handyman. Some need a box of black trash bags.

Some are best with one of us alongside the homeowner, some are best with a crew onsite and tackle lots of spaces at once.

Don’t worry, we have been doing this for almost 2 decades. We have seen A. LOT. Judgement is left at the door and our goal is the see your eyes light up when the space has lightness, feels good and you have had the tour for where it all is, and the plan to keep it that way.

Leave regret behind. You deserve more. The freedom. The happiness. The lightness. The smile.

What other questions do you have?

This week we helped a woman prepare her office and a closet of her home for sale.

The office generated 6 bags of trash.
5 boxes of donations, 4 bags of donations and a bag of shred.

What she found?

Space. Air to breathe and a plan for the space.

The closet generated a shelf for her daughter to claim, four more trash bags and another bag of donations.

Now she can walk into the space easily and place her hands on whatever she needs.

Next we get to dig into the main closet.

When the things like old stained pillows that have lived on a shelf high up are removed, then it also removes dust and makes space for life to fill it.

There are now spaces for staging and less to manage. She stated how freeing this felt.

Mission Accomplished!

I’ll be discussing clutter and in a very different way.
I talk about a cookie jar in my talk.
This is not the one but it’s a similar vintage and style.

How do you measure a good day on the job?

This week it was floors climbed.

In 6 hours, 38 floors were climbed with my phone in my pocket.

Whew.

Yes, that was followed by a very happy client and an uncluttered space.

Also with strong legs.

Who needs gym?

How do you measure your success each day? Does it change for you?

I’m truly curious. 🧐

It’s all gone to the dogs!!

We love a good organization project.
We also love a sweet doggo!

This week after 3 days on the job, this guy was captured no less than a million times. (Okay, that may be a slight exaggeration)

We touched two bedrooms, a laundry room, pantry, coat closet, garage, kitchen (partial), half bath, master bath, master closet, playroom, playroom closet, guest room and closet, Jack and jill bathroom.

This project also generated a trailer of trash and one of donations.

Why were we there?
To prep for sale.

It was a joint project with Steppe by Steppe Solutions. Because some projects are just best shared.

Thanks Anne and your team, it was fun to combine forces.

Best wishes for this client as they move to a bigger space.

And this pup, he’s getting more room to roll, lounge and be himself. Because we ALL deserve to live our best lives.
