This sequence from the tradition of Qigong focuses on heart health. The heart meridian begins under the armpit and ends at the inside of the tip of the pinky finger on each arm. Notice how the palm of the hand intends to face upwards throughout the movement.

The positioning of the palm and the opening of the armpit while the hand circles overhead stimulates the flow of Qi (life energy) down the length of the arm to clear stagnation in the channel. The emotional counterpart in Chinese Medicine is that a healthy heart beats with love, enthusiasm for life, and happiness.

All are welcome to try a free class. Yoga and Tai Chi classes are also available. https://www.directwellnesscare.us/event-list

Qigong is an ancient practice based upon the principles of the Five Elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. It is both a therapy and a science that weaves together life force (Qi and breath) with movement and intention to promote healing.

Each of the Five Elements becomes active at a certain time of year, is associated with specific organs in the body, and has its own unique qualities. In a healthy person, the Five Elements work in sync with each other. Disease can occur when one or more of the elements become weak or excessive which can cause an imbalance in the other elements.

This Qigong Five Element form follows the Creative Cycle of Earth, Metal, Water, Wood and Fire. By practicing this form we are learning about the elements and how they work to support each other. Symbolically speaking, Earth creates Metal, Metal brings value to Water, Water nourishes Wood, Wood provides Fuel for Fire, and the ash from Fire brings nourishment to the Earth, and on it goes.

Practicing Qigong sequences based on Chinese medical principles promotes balance between the Five Elements and brings peace and healing into our lives.

Happy Independence Day! Today we celebrate our freedom as a nation but also our freedom as individuals. We are blessed and fortunate to live in a country that values freedom and protects it fiercely.

In terms of personal freedom, there are many options for exercise that are available to us for health care and self-care.

For example, a Yoga practice helps us learn how to properly stretch, lengthen, and align the body to reduce pain and restrictions in movement.

Qigong is a graceful style of movement that circulates energy, calms a stressed-out mind, increases immunity, and promotes healing.

Tai Chi offers focus, improved cognition, coordination, and balance.

All practices offer coping skills to free the mind from repetitious thoughts that are negative and draining. They are gateways to an active and independent life. They help us find freedom in body and mind, and feeling well every day is certainly something to celebrate!

Today our world is celebrating International Day of Yoga! On this special day, yoga practitioners from around the globe will gather together to practice Yoga. As part of the celebration, the Kindle version of the following book is Free all day on June 21 and 22 on Amazon. All are welcome to log in to Amazon and order it.

The title of the book is:
The Gospel of Science: Mind Blowing New Science on Ancient Truths to Heal our Stress, Lives, and Planet (2nd Edition) - by William Douglas and Angela Wong Douglas

I am sharing about this opportunity in case anyone would like to order the free kindle version today and tomorrow only!

The authors are the founders of World Tai Chi and Qigong Day and the Global Transformation Project which aims to bring mindfulness into our schools so children can learn mind/body practices at a young age. There is so much bullying that in some cases has led to tragedy, so anything we can do to favorably impact our youth would be a blessing to our planet.

William (Bill) and Angela Douglas have been sharing mind/body practices in schools, hospitals, prisons, and community centers for over 40 years. They are good people who have worked selflessly to bring healing to our world.

- Come help me celebrate International Day of Yoga with a free Chair Yoga class in Waxhaw!

Chair yoga can help people manage the symptoms of many health issues such as high blood pressure, anxiety, fatigue, arthritis, osteoporosis, depression, and chronic pain and stiffness. The gentle movements encourage better circulation while the weight-bearing standing poses help to safely build bone density.

Participants can also enjoy other fitness benefits as well, including improved muscle tone and strength, enhanced breathing, reduction of stress, better sleep, confidence, and a sense of overall well-being.

Yoga is for everyone. It is both a work out and a work in. The benefits of yoga can be experienced regardless of age or state of health, and the beauty of yoga is that people come for the stretch, and leave with so much more.

Plant seeds of intention, tend to their growth, be awed by the transformation.

While doing a bit of Spring cleaning, I found an old amaryllis bulb in my garage. I had no idea how long it had been tucked away in a cabinet, away from light and water. When I came across it, I almost threw it out, thinking it would never grow. But something whispered in my ear and asked me to tend to it, bring it outside into the light, and give it some water. Much to my complete amazement, it started to grow. And not only did it grow, but a triple blossom appeared and bloomed.

This bit of unexpected transformation got me thinking about what can happen to us, as people, when we spend too much time isolated from nature and each other. While “sheltering in place” may be beneficial and necessary during times of illness, it can take an unfortunate toll on our mental and emotional health. Just like the bulb that had been tucked away in isolation, it would have never grown if it had not been tended to and given a chance to emerge, change, and blossom.

It is my hope that anyone who is feeling reluctant and in need of encouragement will reach out and embrace complementary modalities of healing. For example, when we practice Yoga, Qigong, and Tai Chi, we not only do something wonderful for our physical body, we support our emotional and mental health as well. As we breathe and move mindfully in our practices, we release old patterns and layers of stress. The mind quiets. The heart is soothed. Growth happens naturally, change is inevitable, and the transformation into a healthier version of you is the beautiful result!

If you have been curious about Yoga, Qigong, and Tai Chi, and would like to learn more about these healing modalities, you can use this link to schedule a free consult or first free class. It is my greatest joy to help people learn how mindful movement can support health and life, and I would be honored to assist you in this process towards a happier you! https://forms.office.com/r/Bt7TKpiPhb
May Growth, Change, and Transformation be your triple blossom!
