The Harrington Family Funeral Services would like to sincerely thank the family of Eddie “K Kate” Green for allowing us the honor of serving you.

Listening to her family speak about her painted such a vivid picture, she could be stern when she needed to be, but she was also the life of the party. She loved good music, she loved to dance, and she loved living life on her own terms.

Her service was not traditional, it was done her way. The room was filled with heartfelt memories shared by those who truly knew and loved her, and her personal playlists played throughout the service, setting the tone for a celebration that reflected her spirit perfectly.

Ms. Green also proudly served in the United States Navy, and following the service, military honors were rendered in recognition of her dedication and sacrifice. It was a powerful moment that honored both her service to her country and her many accomplishments throughout her life.

Thank you again to the Green family for trusting us to walk alongside you in honoring such a remarkable woman. Her legacy, her strength, and her joy will never be forgotten.

"If they don't give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair" - Shirley Chisholm

Shirley Chisholm was the first African American woman elected to the House of Representatives. She was elected in 1968 and represented the state of New York. She broke ground again four years later in 1972 when she was the first major party African American candidate and the first female candidate for president of the United States.

A. C. Richardson was a Black inventor credited with creating an early burial lowering device, a tool used to safely and respectfully lower a casket into the grave. His invention improved dignity, safety, and efficiency during graveside services—advancements that remain foundational in modern funeral service today. Richardson’s contribution is a powerful example of how Black innovation has shaped the care, respect, and professionalism within the funeral industry.

She never got to finish her journey that day. On March 7, 1965, Amelia Boynton Robinson was marching peacefully with hundreds of protesters in Selma, Alabama, for voting rights when state troopers attacked with tear gas and billy clubs. She was beaten and left unconscious on the Edmund Pettus Bridge. The events of that day—later known as “Bloody Sunday”—shocked the nation and helped lead to the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
