Did you know Wayland is an AHA CPR training center? What that means is we have many instructors from the West Michigan area that train with us and then teach out in the community. Today was one of our Bi-Annual required training sessions to make sure everyone is up to date! Thank you for braving the cold!

Last night we had our annual Christmas Party. We forgot to take pictures as were enjoying a night of laughter and fellowship with family. During this time we hand out gifts to the little children, give crew members ‘hearts’ to remind them of the good they do in the community AND we award our EMT and MFR of the year. This year we recognized Corey Ribble from Orangeville as our MFR and Karreena Wooten as our EMT of Year. Both were nominated by their peers for their service and outward showing the commitment to Wayland EMS.

We were blessed by these cute little kiddos today who stopped by to share some Thanksgiving cheer!! They remind us of why we choose to work in this profession and this community and give us reasons to be thankful! The crews working over the holidays will definitely be thankful for the treats along with words of encouragement!

We have exciting news to share!

In partnership with Wayland Area Emergency Medical Services - WAEMS , HAFD is now licensed to the Basic Life Support (BLS) level. What does this mean? Squads 4 and 5 from Station 1 and Station 2 now carry additional medications and equipment to begin providing upgraded emergency medical care to those suffering from some respiratory distress and cardiac problems, as well as anaphylaxis and overdose.

This service upgrade was made possible by our firefighters receiving higher personal licensures, commitment by our partners at Wayland Area EMS, with special thanks to Cassie Kooistra (IC) for providing excellent training.

We were blessed today by a local family that is cleaning out their closet in preparation for moving. These are the perfect size to keep a few at a time in the trucks ready to help comfort our little patients when they are scared, hurt, or sick 🥰
