Why Emotional Intelligence matters in the workplace?

Emotional Intelligence (EI) is more than just a buzzword—it's a critical asset in high-demand work environments. Research shows that EI can explain up to 5% of the variance in workplace performance, which, while seemingly modest, translates into significant organizational benefits over time (Van Rooy & Viswesvaran).

EI is especially impactful in emotionally demanding roles where interpersonal contact is essential. Employees with higher EI are not only better performers, but also report greater job satisfaction and stronger self-control. They communicate more effectively, work better in teams, and adapt more easily to pressure.

However, the Emotional Intelligence-performance link is nuanced. Studies suggest that its influence is greater in roles with high emotional labor and that more research is needed to fully understand its scope, especially across different demographics and job types.

Organizations are increasingly recognizing the value of Emotional Intelligence in recruitment, training, and leadership. By fostering emotional and social competencies, they pave the way for better performance, improved wellbeing, and a healthier work culture.

Developing Emotional Intelligence isn’t just good for individuals—it’s good for business.

Emotional intelligence starts within.

If you don’t know yourself, it’s hard to truly understand others.

Self-awareness isn’t just self-care—it’s the foundation of better decisions, stronger relationships, and smarter leadership.

How does emotional intelligence actually show up in your life?

According to Mental Health America:

“People with high emotional intelligence can identify how they’re feeling, what those feelings mean, and how they impact their behavior — and others.”

That awareness is powerful. ✨ Try asking yourself:

“What emotion am I feeling right now?”

“Where is it coming from?”

“How might this be affecting what I say or do?”

Small check-ins can lead to BIG changes in how we connect, lead, and love.

Worry or Anxiety? Do you know the difference?

Do you find yourself constantly overthinking or physically tense for no clear reason? You might be dealing with more than just everyday worry.

Here’s how they differ (via Talkspace, “Worry vs. Anxiety: How to Tell the Difference,” July 14, 2022):

1. Worry is fleeting — anxiety tends to linger
2. Worry is often planned — anxiety feels overwhelming and unplanned
3. Worry is mental — anxiety shows up in your body
4. Worry is rational — anxiety can be catastrophic
5. Worry doesn’t disrupt your day — anxiety can interfere with life

If anxiety is affecting your relationships, health, children, career, in-laws, finances, or other areas of your life, therapy can help you take back control. You don’t have to navigate it alone.
