Considering going on a GLP-1 agonist such as Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, etc., etc.? Just be aware that estimates are that 20-60% of the weight lost is lean muscle! That being said, a proper diet and exercise plan is ESSENTIAL to mitigate the muscle loss and to set yourself for a better likelihood of long-term success. Diet quality becomes even more important when your calorie number is limited. To think of it in money terms: If I gave you $200 to buy groceries for the week, you can be little more liberal with what buy, and maybe even spend a little on a treat. But now, if you can only have $100 for the week- you have to be very discerning with how you spend that money to make sure you have all the essentials.

Don't hesitate to reach out to me or Ashley today to book an appointment to learn more about how to optimize your diet. Most commercial insurance companies do cover nutrition sessions, some even at 100% for several sessions/year.

I'm glad they are doing more research on this subject, which helps demonstrate that there is no one "superfood" or specific diet program everyone can follow that is best. Eating a variety of foods and changing your intake based on your needs as your body and life stage change is key.

For example, eating an apple is a good idea nutritionally, but that's just one choice among countless dietary decisions people make over the course of a single day.

FYI for Amazon Prime day: A 2 lb container of Orgain Plant Based protein powder is only $15.00. If you use this in your oat bran everyday... now is the time to load up!

A quick video that helps explain yet more reasons why I am such a nag about having my clients incorporate regular exercise: I figured this is more likely to be watched than posting research articles...

ATTN AETNA MEMBERS: As of 4/1, Aetna has decreased the reimbursement rate of "mid-level practitioners"; Dietitians, Respiratory Therapists, Massage Therapists, Audiologists, etc. by 25%! They are now significantly the lowest paying insurance company I am a provider with, which is ironic in times of crazy inflation and increased costs associated with everything to manage a business. I have been in network with them for 10+ years and have never gotten a pay increase. And now they are decreasing it so much that many RDs feel it is not worth it to stay in network. I feel dedicated to providing services to help improve the health of all my clients, so I plan to continue to stay in network with the hope that this is just a temporary pay cut. However, I know that by doing this, Aetna is losing a lot of other providers.

So, I am asking you to please reach out to your company's HR team or contact Aetna directly to advocate for our services. Dietitians, especially, are serving to help reduce healthcare costs by preventing/managing diabetes, heart disease, obesity, etc. Clearly nutrition counseling is not the burden of the healthcare system, but I think rather, could help lower healthcare costs if companies just invested more in dietitians and preventative health. Thank you for your help!
