Wayne General Hospital

Wayne General Hospital Mission Statement

Our Mission is to provide quality health care that meets or exceeds the expectations of our customers.

Our History

In 1951, Wayne General Hospital opened its doors as a 30–bed institution to care for the citizens of Wayne County. Demands for hospital services increased and in 1962, additional beds and an expanded ancillary services area were added. In 1977, a new facility was completed at the present location. This facility is an 80-bed general acute care hospital offering laboratory services, radiology, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, surgery, an intensive–care unit, swing-bed, obstetrics, home health, hospice, wellness center, ambulance services, and emergency room services. Wayne General Hospital offers two Primary Care Clinics, a Walk-In (sick clinic) and The Wayne County School Clinic. Today the hospital — with modern equipment, expanded services, and specialized personnel — has the ability to provide more medical services to the people of this area. Wayne General Hospital will continue to provide the medical care needs for today and tomorrow.

Today marked a milestone for our Rehab Department as we celebrated the ribbon-cutting of two new speech therapy rooms!

With the renovations, our two rooms now house our growing team: Ali Hodge and Skylar Gentry sharing one room, and Victoria Finley in the other. One room will be used for ADOS testing, and the other for FEES swallow studies.

A huge thank you to our community for coming out and supporting us! We are so grateful for these new rooms and proud to see the growth of our speech team and facility. What began with just one speech therapist, Mrs. Hope Walker, has grown into a strong program dedicated to meeting the needs of our patients.

Every voice matters.❤️

Thanks to funding from Blue Cross Blue Shield, six of our nurses recently completed the Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO®) course.

ALSO® is an evidence-based, multidisciplinary training program that equips the entire pregnancy care team—physicians, residents, nurse midwives, RNs, and other team members—with the skills to manage obstetric emergencies effectively. The course promotes a standardized, team-based approach to improve patient safety and maternal outcomes.

The blended course included online learning at each nurse’s own pace, followed by hands-on skills assessment, taught by Stephanie Swilley, MSNEd, RNC-OB/C-EFM/C-ONQS.

We are proud to support our nurses in enhancing care for every patient! ❤

This past week, a few of our staff had the honor of attending the ribbon cutting for the Robert C. Robbins, M.D. Hospital Simulation Center at Jones College!
