Wayne General Hospital Mission Statement

Our Mission is to provide quality health care that meets or exceeds the expectations of our customers.

Our History

In 1951, Wayne General Hospital opened its doors as a 30–bed institution to care for the citizens of Wayne County. Demands for hospital services increased and in 1962, additional beds and an expanded ancillary services area were added. In 1977, a new facility was completed at the present location. This facility is an 80-bed general acute care hospital offering laboratory services, rad

iology, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, surgery, an intensive–care unit, swing-bed, obstetrics, home health, hospice, wellness center, ambulance services, and emergency room services. Wayne General Hospital offers two Primary Care Clinics, a Walk-In (sick clinic) and The Wayne County School Clinic. Today the hospital — with modern equipment, expanded services, and specialized personnel — has the ability to provide more medical services to the people of this area. Wayne General Hospital will continue to provide the medical care needs for today and tomorrow.

It’s not every summer that we get to welcome a mother and daughter as students on our campus—but this year, we did! We were proud to have Benjee Rigney and her daughter Emily Rigney spend their summer learning and growing right here at Wayne General.

Benjee has been a devoted part of the Wayne General family for 27 years, serving in multiple departments and currently working in our ICU. This spring, she returned in a new role—as a student in the Family Nurse Practitioner program at the University of Southern Mississippi. Under the guidance of Courtney Adkins, Director of Hospital Medicine, Benjee reignited her passion for growth and hands-on learning.

She also had the opportunity to work with Peyton Rogers, FNP, during the summer semester at Mississippi Family Medicine, where she discovered a love for the clinic setting—treating entire families and building lasting, meaningful relationships with patients.

Emily, a second-year medical student at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, also joined us—working closely with Dr. Carpenter. Inspired from a young age by watching her mom care for patients and their grandparents, Emily developed a strong passion for medicine. After working as an ER tech and shadowing providers, she developed a strong interest in primary care in rural communities and hopes to one day give back to the very areas that shaped her.

Both Benjee and Emily expressed their gratitude for the incredible providers they worked alongside and the valuable experiences they gained. Their journey is a beautiful reminder that the call to care can span generations—and that it’s never too early or too late to follow your passion. 🏥❤

Our Wayne General School Clinic staff participated in the WCHS Open House, hosting a booth to help parents complete consent forms for students to be seen in the School Clinic. Staff were also present at each county and middle school event to make sure every family had access to this important information.

As a thank-you, we held a drawing for a $25 Walmart gift card for those who turned in their forms that night. Congratulations to Aleitha Gordon, our lucky winner announced Friday morning!

This was a great opportunity to connect with our community, and we’re wishing all students, faculty, and families a safe and healthy school year ahead.

Reminder: Our School Clinic is open to everyone—not just students and faculty!

Join us in welcoming Dr. Caitlyn Brett to the Wayne General team!
Today marks Dr. Brett’s first day at the Waynesboro Family Medicine & Obstetrics Clinic, and we’re excited to have her on board.

A proud Waynesboro native, Dr. Brett earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Mississippi College, followed by a master’s in Biomedical Science and a Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from William Carey University. She completed her residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

With both of her parents working in healthcare, Dr. Brett grew up surrounded by medicine and developed a passion for helping others from an early age.

Dr. Brett is available for all primary care needs, including sick visits and wellness visits, for patients of all ages. As a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), she brings a whole-body approach to care with specialized training in the musculoskeletal system. She incorporates osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT)—a hands-on technique used to treat chronic pain, assist with injury recovery, and manage a range of conditions in both children and adults.

This approach can be especially beneficial for patients with chronic conditions, athletes, those recovering from injuries, and even children dealing with issues such as constipation, head or neck tension, or lymphatic concerns. There’s an OMT technique for almost everyone—and Dr. Brett plans to incorporate these into her everyday care to treat the person, not just the disease.

She is happily married and lives in Waynesboro. Dr. Brett will be seeing patients four days a week at Waynesboro Family Medicine & Obstetrics Clinic and looks forward to serving the community for many years to come.

To schedule an appointment, call 601-735-2401.

Let’s give Dr. Brett a warm welcome—we’re lucky to have her back home and caring for our community!
