🎉 Auxiliary Celebrating 70 Years of Dedication! 🚑💙

Recently on Saturday, October 25th, the Waynesboro First Aid Crew “Auxiliary” celebrated an incredible milestone - their 70th Anniversary! Auxiliary members (active and inactive) and former members joined together to celebrate seven (7) decades of selfless service, unwavering commitment, and countless acts of compassion that have touched the lives of so many across the Waynesboro community.

Chaplain Richard Ammonds from Waynesboro Fire Department led the opening invocation. WFAC inactive life members including Jerry Beard, Dr. Asher Brand, Gary Critzer, Dee Price, and Ashley Cook shared words of gratitude and heartfelt congratulations to the Auxiliary members present. Since its founding in February 1955, the Auxiliary has been a pillar of support, compassion, and commitment. From fundraising and community outreach to behind-the-scenes support, the WFAC Auxiliary has been there in our community’s times of greatest need.

To all past and present Auxiliary members: thank you for your unwavering service and dedication! ❤️💙 Congratulations on 70 years of excellence—and many more to come! 🎉

Keeping our students safe is a shared responsibility for everyone on the roadway. Please remember to stop for stopped school buses 🚌 with flashing red lights and an extended stop sign 🛑 when approaching from any direction.

Waynesboro, VA — National School Bus Safety Week is October 20-24, 2025. The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is urging drivers to slow down and be aware of school buses in their communities. Although school buses are one of the safest modes of transportation, injuries and fatalities do occur outside of or near the buses. Most often, these tragedies occur because a motorist has failed to slow down and obey the bus’s stop sign, or to follow local traffic laws. Nationally, school bus passing is illegal, and it is a deadly risk to bus riders and their caregivers. Drivers should always come to a complete stop when a school bus stop-arm is extended and the red lights are flashing.

The Waynesboro First Aid Crew and Auxiliary have lost a special part of our family. 💔 It is with profound soundness and heavy hearts to announce the passing of Auxiliary, Life Member Audrey Kerby Roberts on Thursday, July 31, 2025.

A longtime resident of the Shenandoah Valley, Audrey was born on December 12, 1937, in Waynesboro, VA. Audrey had a successful career working at Wayn-Tex, a long-time carpet backing plant in Waynesboro, VA.

In addition to her parents, Audrey was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, James Wade “Jim” Roberts (WFAC life member); son, James Leslie “Les” Roberts; siblings, Lyle Kerby and Mary Belle Whitt.

Outside her home and professional life, Audrey became a volunteer member of the Auxiliary of the Waynesboro First Aid Crew in November 1963, known then as the Ladies Auxiliary of Waynesboro First Aid Crew. Audrey’s late husband, Jim, who became a volunteer “senior crew” member of WFAC just three months prior in August 1963, helped recruit her as an auxiliary member.

Following in her husband’s footsteps, Audrey also had a desire and devotion toward serving others and was an integral part of the WFAC Auxiliary for greater than five (5) decades. For fifty-two (52) years, Audrey faithfully dedicated innumerable hours of service to WFAC Auxiliary and the Waynesboro community. During Audrey’s volunteer service with the Auxiliary, she held multiple Auxiliary officer positions to include President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Historian, and Chaplain. In addition, Audrey served on multiple committees over the years to include Ways and Means, Social, Membership, and Bereavement. After many years of unwavering dedication and volunteer service, Audrey received life membership of the WFAC Auxiliary in December 1977.

Audrey will be fondly remembered by her friends and WFAC family for being quick witted, outspoken, and always willing to help others. She will be deeply missed by our organization and the many lives she touched through her community service. Our thoughts and prayers will be with her family. 🙏🏻❤️

There is no greater purpose than service to others. Audrey, thank you for your fifty-two (52) years of faithful, outstanding, and unselfish service to Waynesboro First Aid Crew and the community it serves! 💚 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). ❤️🚑💙

Audrey it was a pleasure serving alongside you~ you were one of a kind and will never be forgotten! With heavy hearts, your friends and WFAC family say, “May God Bless your beautiful soul and may you rest in eternal peace. We love you, Audrey!”
