Microchips are so important in the event your pet becomes separated from you. Keeping your information up to date with the company they are chipped through is even more important. We have seen several animals come into our office who were lost and had microchips, but their owner's information was not up to date and they could not be contacted to notify them their pet had been found.

If you are unsure who your pet is chipped through or you don't know their microchip number, contact us and we will be happy to arrange a time to help you!

Thursday, August 14th we will be taking a little extra time from our day to celebrate Penny, one of our long-term employees. Penny will be retiring at the end of the month and has been with us 18 years and has brought a calming and reassuring presence into every appointment she's assisted with. She will be missed greatly by staff, clients, and patients alike, but we wish her nothing but the absolute best for her eagerly anticipated retirement!

As Summer is quickly passing us by, you may be considering a late Summer beach trip to round out the season. During any beach visit with your furry friends, be sure to stock up on fresh water, pet dishes, your pet’s favorite treats and meals, and something to keep your pet cool, like an umbrella for shade. Make sure the sand is not too hot for them to walk across! Never leave your pet unattended and watch out for the highlighted items in the graphic so that everyone can enjoy a fun, safe day at the beach! πŸ–

Some lessons are learned the hard way. Skunks leave a long-lasting impression on our furry friends, literally! If they've been sprayed by a skunk, regular shampoo may not get that odor out. It definitely is going to take a bit of time for it to completely go away, but this recipe is one of the most tried and true that we recommend if your pet has been sprayed by a skunk:

Mix the following ingredients together in a bowl (DO NOT MIX IN CLOSED CONTAINER AS A CHEMICAL REACTION COULD CAUSE THE SEALED BOTTLE TO EXPLODE):
1 Quart 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
1/4 Cup Baking Soda
1tsp of Blue Dawn Dish soap
Work the solution thoroughly into your dog's coat, paying close attention to the areas where they were sprayed. Be sure to avoid your pet's eyes, ears, and mouth. Allow the solution to remain on your dog for about 5-10 minutes, or until the odor is noticeably reduced. Hydrogen peroxide can lighten or bleach fur, so avoid leaving it on for extended periods. Rinse thoroughly: Use warm (not hot) water to completely rinse the solution from your dog's fur. Shampoo (optional): For an extra measure, you can follow with a regular pet shampoo to help restore the natural pH balance of your dog's fur. Towel dry and warm: Towel dry your dog and keep them in a warm area to prevent chilling.
