As temperatures are rising be aware of HOT CARS! Temperatures inside a car can rapidly rise even on days that you may think are not too hot. These temperatures can reach life-threatening levels within MINUTES. A child’s body heats up THREE to FIVE times faster than an adult, making them especially vulnerable to heat stroke which can cause damaging health issues such as organ failure, brain damage or death. Hundreds of children have died after being left or trapped in a hot car.

Many of these cases involve loving, attentive caregivers who made a simple but fatal mistake. Other times, children climb into unlocked vehicles without adults realizing.

Raising awareness and taking preventive measures such as ALWAYS checking the back seat before locking the car or setting an alarm in your car and overall, NEVER leaving your child alone in the car are some important steps to take to avoid at all costs any kind of incidents. If you see a child alone in a car call 911 immediately.

My heart is heartbroken as I see and experience all the devastation that surrounds me in these beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. My friends living in my old stomping grounds of Biltmore Village no longer have businesses, homes, and security of basic needs. I am sad. Sylva was spared in comparison to our neighboring counties. We are safe, our home is intact with no damage, we have clean water to drink, food, electricity, and our health. Cell service was restored last night. Hurricane Helena is teaching me that communities do come together, that human connection is real connection, we are to be grateful for the small things, to hug those you love, and that taking a break from your iPhone and the distractions it brings CREATES moments in the day where your head is clear, your heart is full, the creative juices flow, and you find that chatting with a neighbor is more rewarding then sending a text message or scrolling facebook. I hope to continue this way of living- love to all my friends who checking in with me- means the world.
