When SNAP benefits became uncertain, many residents in our affordable housing communities faced added stress about meeting basic needs.

Thanks to the Resident Assistance Ministry Fund, Givens Philanthropy provided Publix grocery gift cards to help ease this burden.

One resident shared:
“I began to tear up when I received the financial support as things have been very stressful with finances. Receiving these grocery gift cards was a huge blessing, especially since the holidays are coming up.”
Together, we reaffirm what makes Givens special: an organization where care is not just a value, but a promise lived out every day.

On Wednesday, Scott Farkas, Givens COO, and Andrew Crosson, Givens Project Development Coordinator, joined Dr. Yiqing Yang’s Sociology of Aging class at Western Carolina University to share insights on aging, housing, and the mission of Givens Affordable Communities.

They spoke about residential options across the economic spectrum and how thoughtful design and community support can shape the aging experience.

We are grateful for the opportunity to engage with future leaders and explore how housing can honor dignity at every stage of life.

A beautiful moment of community and legacy

Givens Affordable Communities was honored to witness Teresa, our VP, speak at the consecration of the Lady Gloria Ridge community building. Pictured are our Community Manager, Jonathan, and Laurie Shea, Director of Housing at Haywood Street Community Development, Teresa, VP of GAC, and Heather Winn, Director of GAC. We all helped celebrate a space rooted in purpose and connection through community.

Also pictured are Brian Combs, pastor of Haywood Street, and Sherry Free, daughter of Miss Lady Gloria. Sherry shared heartfelt reflections on her mother’s legacy and the deep connection to this affordable housing community named in her honor.

Celebrating Community & Generosity!

We’re proud to share that Teresa Stephens, Heather Winn, and Johnathan McCalister, Community Manager for Lady Gloria Ridge, attended the annual Nourish and Nest Fundraising Dinner in support of Haywood Street Housing.

It was a sold-out evening hosted by Chai Pani and Curate, and thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, Haywood Street raised $100,000! These funds will help create deeply affordable, community-driven housing and put the finishing touches on the Lady Gloria Ridge community.

Together, we’re building spaces that empower lives and foster belonging.
