Linda is a Certified Nursing Assistant who has been working at Ohio Living Westminster-Thurber 45 years. A friend who was a nurse on campus recruited her to be a “Geriatric Assistant,” and she did that until she became an STNA in 1989. She began working in Healthcare, but has expanded to also serve in Assisted Living and Rehab.
She says that, while the campus has grown over the years, it still means a lot to her when she can make a resident smile. It also stood out to her when, in the 1980s, a resident advised her to remember to start planning for retirement. She took that advice to heart and has been planning ever since!
It is the residents and being present for her team that bring Linda to work every day. “I try to stop and think that, if I call off, it will be harder for the residents and my co-workers,” she said. Then she added, “I also like living close enough to walk.”
Linda would tell a person just starting in her role, “Hang in there and don’t give up. The work is hard and it will be worth it.” She also says that she is sure to thank her co-workers whenever she can.
