March is officially Disability Awareness Month in Haywood County!

We’re grateful to the Haywood County Commissioners for proclaiming this special month — and for helping shine a light on the importance of dignity, inclusion, and belonging for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

This year feels even more meaningful as we celebrate nearly 50 years of The Arc walking alongside individuals and families in our community.

Awareness leads to understanding.
Understanding leads to belonging.

And belonging is what strengthens Haywood County.

2026 marks 50 YEARS of The Arc of Haywood County.

For five decades, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities have been living, working, contributing, and belonging right here in our community.

This month isn’t just about awareness. It’s about celebrating progress. Honoring advocacy. And recommitting to a future where everyone belongs.

Here’s to 50 years — and the next 50 💜

Through individualized community networking, we help discover each person’s unique interests and passions — and connect them with experiences that truly fit who they are. 💙
Recently, one of our members shared that she wanted to visit the Western North Carolina Nature Center — and she had a blast! From exploring exhibits to enjoying time in nature, it was a day filled with smiles and discovery.
Because when people are supported in doing what they love, amazing things happen!
