Trigeminal Nerve: “The trigeminal nerve is the fifth and largest cranial nerve, responsible for providing sensation to the face and controlling chewing muscles. It has three main branches—the ophthalmic (V1), maxillary (V2), and mandibular (V3)—which transmit feelings like touch, pain, and temperature from different areas of the face and mouth to the brain.

❄️Branches and their functions❄️

✔️Ophthalmic nerve (V1): This branch provides sensation to the forehead, the eye, the upper eyelid, and the nose.

✔️Maxillary nerve (V2): This branch provides sensation for the middle of the face, including the cheek, upper teeth and gums, lower eyelid, and the side of the nose.

✔️Mandibular nerve (V3): This branch provides sensation to the lower part of the face, including the jaw, lower teeth and gums, and lower lip. It also contains motor fibers that control the muscles used for chewing.”

Here is the psoas

PSOAS: “Anatomy of Psoas Muscle Innervation: L1-L4, not just L1, L2

Modern anatomic descriptions typically list the innervation of the psoas major muscle (PMM) as primarily from L1 and L2 (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23259543/,https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21961862/)

In contradistinction to this common notion, Mahan and colleagues dissections of 16 cadavers revealed that the PMM receives multiple levels of innervation corresponding to the vertebral level of attachment from L1 to L4 (lumbar plexus). No branches from T12 or L5 were identified. (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28321940/)

The innervation of the PMM is directly from the ventral rami, not from branches of the major nerves destined to the lower extremity. This innervation pattern of the PMM is consistent with the notion of a segmental muscle, reminiscent of the dorsal paraspinal muscles.

👉The branches from the spinal nerves of L2 and L3 provided longer and wider-diameter branches, suggesting a larger contribution to the composite innervation of the PMM.”
