Urgent update for PT's in Indiana impacted by the recent board ruling:

Indiana Physical Therapists
Because of the impact of the ruling of the Indiana Board of Physical Therapy concerning the practice of Dry Needling and a requirement concerning specialized training that became effective June 30, 2024, we have adjusted our Dry Needling course content and scheduling to allow rapid certification in Dry Needling in compliance with the Indiana PT Board rule.

Specific to Indiana, there will be three labs, all which can be completed within the next three months.

The Introduction to DN Lab 1 is scheduled for August 10, 2024. On that date there will be an 8 hour in person lab. Prior to that lab, there is online content (8 hours) that is required to be completed prior to that Lab.

Next will be the Advanced Upper Body Dry Needling Lab 2 which will be a 2 day lab (9 hours each day) on September 21 and 22, 2024. All content is in person.

Lastly will be the Advanced Upper Body Dry Needling Lab 3 which will be a 2 day lab (9 hours each day) on October 12 and 13, 2024. All content is in person. At the conclusion of Lab 3 will be a written exam and lab practical to provide certification in dry needling (CHDN).

In all, there will be 8 hours of online training followed by 44 hours of in person training (52 hours), exceeding the Indiana minimum requirements.

I have always advocated for DN + manual therapy and exercise as ideal. First, decrease inflammation. Second, restore motion. Third, return to normal strength and function. I think that is pretty straight forward. There is not a good reason to pit one method against the other when combined they work even better than the one alone.
