Legal Preparedness & Family Planning
Power of Attorney Is Not Automatic

Many families assume they can make medical or financial decisions during a crisisโ€”but without the right Power of Attorney (POA), that authority isnโ€™t guaranteed.

๐Ÿ’ก What to Know:

โ€ข Medical and Financial POA are not the same.

โ€ข POA must be completed before an emergency.

โ€ข Legal planning protects your wishes and reduces family stress.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Take Action:
Start the conversation early. Talk with your loved ones and make sure your documents are in place.

Recently, we had the privilege of celebrating something truly extraordinary, the gift of a second chance.

On August 2, 2025, Michael Douglas suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. Thanks to the quick actions of dispatcher Keith Searl, the fast and skilled response of Paramedics Brandon Love and Rick Smalley, the support of Brock/Dennis Fire personnel, and the involvement of a CPR trained community responder, Michael is here with us today.

Within minutes of care beginning, Michael achieved Return of Spontaneous Circulation, and he even began speaking to the team. This was a moment no one on scene will forget.

Our Medical Directors, Dr. Justin Northeim and Dr. Skipper Bertrand, along with the Parker County Hospital District Administration and Board, continue to strengthen a system built on readiness, training, and community partnership.

Most importantly, we celebrated Michael Douglas. His recovery is a powerful reminder that cardiac arrest is survivable, that training saves lives, and that a community working together can create remarkable outcomes.

Thank you to every person who played a role in this incredible event. Today, we celebrate life. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿš‘

๐Ÿš‘ ๐Ÿš Exciting News for Our Community!

Our PCHD EMS Springtown station has officially completed its new helipad, and this addition will play a vital role in enhancing emergency care for the Springtown area.

Having an on-site helipad allows our EMS crews to transfer critical patients to specialized hospitals faster and more efficiently, especially in timeโ€‘sensitive situations such as trauma, cardiac events, and stroke. It also improves coordination with air medical teams, reduces transport delays, and ensures our residents receive the highest level of care when every second counts.

We're proud to continue strengthening the emergency services available to our community.

Thank you, CBS Texas, for highlighting this important program and the amazing students who are stepping up to make a difference.

Please join us in congratulating Alaira St. Clair on an outstanding professional achievement!

Alaira, a dedicated PCHD Telecommunicator, has recently earned her EMT certification. Over the past four months, she balanced her vital role in the PCHD EMS Communications Center while attending classes and successfully passing her national accreditation exam to become an Emergency Medical Technician.

Alaira plans to continue her education by pursuing her Paramedic certification, with the goal of transitioning from communications to serving as a field paramedic with our department.

This accomplishment reflects tremendous dedication, determination, and commitment to serving our community. We are incredibly proud of Alaira and look forward to watching her continued growth within PCHD EMS. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿš‘
