April Focus: Access to Care

Getting to medical appointments is an essential part of staying healthy. When transportation isn’t available, care can be delayed or missed altogether—affecting health outcomes and long‑term well‑being.

Transportation planning is healthcare planning. Families and support networks play an important role in helping loved ones get to their appointments.

Have the conversation early about transportation needs and support.

Recently, we recognized the remarkable teamwork that led to the successful resuscitation of cardiac arrest survivor, James Comis.

On May 26, 2025, James suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while with his family. They immediately began CPR, guided by 911 Telecommunicator Jeremy Williams. Engine 48 firefighters—Tyler Ramsey, Dustin Rowe, Seth Wells, and Austin Boyd—arrived quickly and continued high‑quality CPR.

PCHD EMS paramedics Mau Tran, Art Montes, and Lane Matheny then provided advanced life support, including multiple defibrillations, airway management, and critical medications. Their coordinated efforts restored James’s pulse, and he was transported to Medical City Weatherford for continued cardiac care.

This event highlights the strength of a well‑executed chain of survival and the dedication of everyone involved. Because of their swift, skilled action, James was given a second chance at life.

Long‑Term Care & Financial Readiness
Planning for Care Isn’t Just for the Elderly

Anyone can face an illness, injury, or life change that makes daily tasks harder—things like bathing, dressing, mobility, meal prep, or managing medications. Without a plan, families can be caught off‑guard by the cost of care, whether it’s at home, in assisted living, or through support services.

Starting the conversation early helps you understand your options, prepare financially, and avoid rushed decisions during a crisis.
PCHD’s Community Health Program is here to guide families as they plan for future care needs at any age.
