Ever wonder how vaccines work? Vaccines teach your immune system how to fight diseases. They contain tiny parts of a virus or bacteria, or just the genetic instructions to make those parts. This triggers an immune response without causing illness, so your body "remembers" how to fight the disease if exposed in the future. All ingredients are carefully tested for safety, ensuring vaccines are both effective and secure.

Following a spinal cord injury, early intervention through rehabilitation can help prevent further disability and reduce the possibility of complications. Rehabilitation can help prevent muscle stiffness, pressure sores, and infections, while building strength, mobility, and quality of life.

At our hospital, an interdisciplinary healthcare team works with patients and family members to create individualized treatment plans, allowing patients to maximize recovery so they can return to active and productive lives. Our goal is to provide the highest quality of life possible following a spinal cord injury.

Meet Sarah, Physical Therapist Assistant and our Therapy Team Lead.

Sarah has worked for ClearSky Weatherford since May 2016. She first became interested in therapy after seeing her teammates injured and rehabilitated back to the field or court.

After starting school, she found that her heart was drawn to patients with amputations and neurological deficits. She has found it a blessing to help them regain their mobility. One thing she loves doing with her patients is Tai Chi, and in 2023, she became certified to better assist patients and their families with calming meditation and gentle stretching.

"I love being at ClearSky Weatherford because I can give back to my community and church, who have poured into my life, making me who I am today," she says.

In her off time, you will find Sarah in her garden or helping her three children with sports and school activities.

As temperatures rise, protecting your skin from harmful UV rays is crucial. Sun exposure adds up in many unexpected ways, so prevention is the best protection. Here’s how to keep your skin safe:

• Always wear sunscreen when outdoors. Use broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen, reapply at minimum every 2 hours, and be sure to use on often-missed spots like scalp, ears, lips, and neck.
• Wear wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses.
• Use water-resistant sunscreen when swimming and reapply immediately after getting out of the water
• Wear sunscreen even in the shade. While shade blocks some of the sun's direct UV rays, it does not completely eliminate them. UV rays can bounce off surfaces like water and sand and reach you in shaded areas.
• Dress with UPF clothing and use sunscreen when in driving or when sitting indoors near windows. UV rays pass through windows.
