Intriguing things heading down the pipeline! Please note this is a very small preliminary study, but the results were downright flabbergasting even after a one-year follow-up of the subjects. An injection of a substance currently called AMG 0103 was placed into the nucleus pulposus of the discs in the spine. That's the gelatinous inner portion of it. If I ever talked to you in the clinic about the disc, think of this as the jelly filling we discussed of the donut haha. The AMG blocked the local negative inflammatory response without apparent broad reaching immunosuppression and without the local tissue degenerative issues that we see with steroids. A one-year follow-up showed that patients in general were still seeing very significant pain reduction as well as actual *regeneration* in the disc!
Intriguing and promising. Can't wait to see more on it!
"Conclusion: A single intradiscal injection of AMG0103 demonstrated clinically meaningful and statistically significant improvements in back pain, disc height and patient satisfaction throughout 1 year. Further investigation in a larger patient population is warranted."
