October is Health Literacy Month, a reminder of the importance of making health information clear and accessible for everyone.

According to Healthy People 2030, nearly 90% of adults struggle to understand and use their health information. Low health literacy can create barriers to treatment, especially for individuals living with substance use and mental health disorders.

At Crossroads, we are dedicated to improving health literacy by providing patients with clear communication, education and support so they feel empowered to make informed decisions about their recovery.

This Mental Illness Awareness Week, we raise our voices to reduce stigma and spotlight the importance of early care and support for mental health. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, one in five U.S. adults experience mental illness each year, and many face co-occurring substance use disorders that make integrated care essential.

At Crossroads, we believe early recognition, compassionate care and integrated treatment improve outcomes for people facing mental health and substance use disorders. This week, let’s listen more, judge less and make sure everyone can find the support they deserve.

October is National Substance Abuse/Use Prevention Month, a time to stress the importance of prevention in reducing the impact of substance use disorders.

According to the CDC, overdose deaths in the U.S. declined by nearly 27% in 2024, which was the most significant drop in recent years and a reminder that prevention and access to care help make a difference.

At Crossroads, we are committed to prevention through awareness, access to care and evidence-based treatment that supports lasting recovery.

Psychotherapy plays a vital role in the recovery journey for those impacted by substance use disorders (SUD).

Therapists help individuals heal from trauma, develop healthier coping mechanisms and rebuild their lives with compassion and evidence-based support. These mental health professionals are essential to addressing the emotional and psychological roots of addiction.

Today, on National Psychotherapy Day, we honor the therapists making a lasting difference and encourage anyone struggling to explore the life-changing impact of therapy.

Crossroads teammates were proud to participate in the Mental Health Matters Walk/Run for Awareness, a family-friendly 5k hosted by All Souls Counseling Center. The event raised awareness of the many mental health resources available in WNC and worked to end the stigma around seeking help. Along with the walk and run, participants connected with local wellness and mental health organizations at the community resource fair, helping normalize conversations about mental health and support.

As part of National Recovery Month, our Crossroads OTP Louisville team hosted a Recovery Rally Resource Event to bring more support and services directly to patients and neighbors. The event brought together a wide variety of community partners—offering everything from mental health services and primary care to Hepatitis C testing, transportation support and more. The event was focused on breaking down barriers, building connections and helping people move forward in recovery.
