In honor of Indigenous Peoples Day on Monday, October 9, we modified our school day to send our students on a field trip to The Museum of The Cherokee Indian. Western North Carolina is home to the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in neighboring Cherokee, North Carolina.

Our visit provided a unique opportunity for our students to connect with the indigenous heritage that is an integral part of the land we call home. The exhibits took us back to the roots of Cherokee civilization, tracing their history from ancient times to the present. Our students were captivated by the beautifully crafted artifacts, interactive displays, and the rich stories that wove the tapestry of Cherokee history.

Students recalled that one of the most striking aspects of the museum is its celebration of Cherokee art. We were fortunate to witness incredible examples of traditional and contemporary Cherokee artwork. Examples of beadwork, basketry, and pottery craftsmanship demonstrated incredible indigenous artistry and the Cherokee Nation's dedication to preserving their artistic heritage.

Visiting the Museum of the Cherokee Indian served as a reminder of the importance of understanding, respecting, and celebrating diverse cultures. It was an experience that inspired our students to embrace the values of inclusivity, appreciate the strength of cultural diversity, and think critically about history and the continuation of indigenous culture.

We love field-trips to see nature's wonders! We took our students on a captivating field trip to Linville Caverns. The guided exploration led us through stunning underground landscapes with breathtaking rock formations, serene underground streams, and mesmerizing shimmering pools. As we ventured through the caverns, students marveled at the intricate stalactites and stalagmites crafted over millennia. Linville Caverns is not only a geological wonder but also home to an array of intriguing creatures, from bats to salamanders, adding to the magic of our adventure.

"Solstice East was life-saving for our daughter and, by association, our entire family. Our daughter arrived at Solstice in desperate need of a place that could hold her while she worked through major trauma, an eating disorder, and substance abuse. The staff at Solstice were caring, incredibly knowledgeable, well-trained, responsive, and highly professional. Solstice also provided much family education and support. We are so grateful to Solstice East! Thank you!"

We recently held a three-day Academic Seminar focused on Career and Personal Finance! This tailored experience was designed to immerse students in real-life scenarios and decision-making processes. From mastering budgeting to perfecting time management, these skills will empower students to navigate the exciting yet challenging road ahead.

The highlight of the seminar was a thrilling "Game of Life" led by our teachers! These interactive sessions put students in the driver's seat as they randomly faced various life circumstances, mimicking the unpredictable journey of adulthood. It's not just about learning; it is about actively engaging in their own future. We're committed to molding well-rounded individuals equipped with both knowledge and the practical skills needed for a successful transition into adulthood.

Last week's Family Seminar theme was "Connection through Communication"! πŸ’¬

We did a lot of therapeutic work, including providing Clinical Presentations on Parental Trauma and Parent Support Groups, but we also had some fun! Families participated in our "Amazing Race" as they followed clues to bring them to various stations around Asheville where our staff would give them a task or challenge.

Pictured here at a local bookstore, families were asked to select a book that describes something about what they are working on in therapy or experiencing together as a family. How fitting that today is also National Book Lovers Day?! πŸ“š

The first of August is National Respect for Parents Day, a day to recognize parents' strength, leadership, and dedication. Parenting can be an incredibly challenging job, and parents often make difficult decisions in order to provide the best care for their children.

It can be heartbreaking for parents to realize their child needs additional help and support from professionals outside the home. Choosing a care provider can be difficult, and the process can include guilt and uncertainty.

We acknowledge the strength it takes to make these choices. Thanks to the parents who are committed to their child’s well-being and are willing to do whatever it takes to ensure their child’s health and happiness.
