Due to inclement weather, Buncombe County remains closed Saturday, Jan. 11. This closure includes parks, libraries, landfill, transfer station, and community care stations. Road conditions are dangerous, and travel is highly discouraged.

FCC Environmental trucks will be unable to complete solid waste and recycling routes - customers will receive additional information ahead of next week's scheduled collections.

All FEMA Helene Disaster Recovery Centers in North Carolina are closed Friday-Saturday, Jan. 10-11, due to inclement weather. They will reopen at 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13.

Starting on Saturday, Jan. 25, Swannanoa Library will reopen, but due to storm-related budgetary impacts, all Buncombe County Public Libraries will shift to a modified schedule. Highest use locations will remain on their current schedule, with other locations reducing their operating schedule by one or two days per week. With a county-wide hiring freeze in place and 13 vacant library positions, changes to hours of operations ensure that all libraries can remain open despite decreased County revenues.

Wednesday: 10am–6pm

Buncombe County parks, libraries, landfill, transfer station and administrative offices will close at 1 p.m. today, Jan. 10.

Community Care Stations will remain open Friday. Buncombe County public safety and emergency communications will operate on a regular schedule. The Buncombe County winter storm emergency operations center has been activated.

The Buncombe County Courthouse also will close at 1 p.m. Friday.

FCC Environmental trucks are completing routes in the Fairview area. Once completed, crews will move to regularly scheduled Friday routes in North Buncombe weather permitting.

Buncombe County operations are scheduled to open at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11.

All FEMA Helene Disaster Recovery Centers are closed Jan. 10-11 due to inclement weather.

NEW LOCATION FOR FEMA IN-PERSON HELP: Starting tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 9, the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center has a new location at the Asheville Mall at 3 S. Tunnel Road in the former Gap store open everyday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
This location is accessible for those who use public transit through ART bus route WE1.

The Disaster Recovery Center is a one-stop shop to get in-person assistance from FEMA and the Small Business Administration.

Mobile DRCs (M-DRC) continue to operate in Buncombe County at:
-Nov. 11-14: Swannanoa Fire Rescue - Bee Tree Fire Sub Station: 510 Bee Tree Rd., Swannanoa. Open: 8 a.m.-7 p.m.
-Nov. 6-9 and Nov. 15-18: Buncombe County Sports Park (Parking Lot): 58 Apac Dr., Asheville. Open: 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Get ahead of Election Day by voting early. Polls are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Nov. 1, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 2. Don't forget: you’ll need a photo ID to vote! This can be an NC driver’s license, voter ID, or another accepted form of identification.

Apply in-person: Buncombe County Health and Human Services, 40 Coxe Ave, Asheville, NC, 28801, from Oct. 18-24, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you are unable to go in-person to apply, you can fill out an authorization form and send an authorized representative in their place. Call: 1-844-453-1117 for phone applications.

Eligibility: You must live in one of the eligible counties and have suffered losses from Hurricane Helene. And you must not be currently receiving benefits through the Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) program. People receiving FNS can also get extra help buying food, but do not need to fill out a D-SNAP application.

Early voting is available now at 14 locations across the County from:
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Nov. 1
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 2.

On Wednesday, Oct. 23, Buncombe County will reopen to the public with regular business hours, except for most parks and two libraries. On Wednesday, Oct. 23, Buncombe County will reopen to the public with regular business hours, except for most parks and two libraries. The Buncombe County landfill, located at 85 Panther Road in Alexander, is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Transfer Station at 190 Hominy Creek Road in Asheville is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for residential bagged trash and household recycling. Regular fees apply.

Bagged trash can be dropped off tomorrow at Owen Pool.

Recycling can be dropped off at Curbside Management, 116 N. Woodfin Ave. in Asheville, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. A drop-off area is available just inside the gate.
