Join the 2026 One Book, One Buncombe community read. This year’s selection is Happy Land by Dolen Perkins Valdez, a novel set in Western North Carolina that explores land, memory, resilience, and local history.

Buncombe County Public Libraries invite the whole community to read the book and take part in conversations and events across all 12 library locations. You can join a book discussion, attend themed programs, share reflections, or simply read along.

Pick up a free copy at any Buncombe County library branch while supplies last. One book per household. Library copies are also available to check out.

The program will conclude with a free author talk on May 16 at 2 p.m. at A-B Tech’s Ferguson Auditorium.
