Do you love herbs? Are you fascinated by the stars? Do you want to learn, explore, and connect with others who share your passion and curiosity?

Please join guest teacher Jennifer Jacey of Multidimensional Mentoring at 11 am on Sunday, April 12 for a free Intro to Herbal Astrology Learning Circle here at Pisgah Herbals!

Herbal Astrology is the practice of exploring the energetic and medicinal qualities of Earth’s plants in connection with the zodiac and planetary patterns of the Cosmos. Each sign and planet carries distinct energies—like Aries’ bold, fiery initiation or the Moon’s nurturing, cyclical rhythm—and each herb carries its own properties, from calming and grounding to activating and warming. By understanding these connections, we can choose plants to support, nourish, balance, or spark specific energies in our lives.

For our intro circle, we will be focusing on the Herbal Astrology for Aries, the fiery, courageous energy of the zodiac’s first sign and the bringer of Spring.

Together, we’ll:
- Learn about Aries energy and traits
- Explore herbs that support, balance, or spark Aries fire
- Learn the medicinal and spiritual properties of Aries herbs
- Blend and taste herbal teas
- Reflect on how Aries energy impacts our lives
- Take home an Aries tea blend to use during the season.

Details:
When: April 12th, 11 am (plan for 2 hours but we may wrap up within an hour and a half)
Where: Pisgah Herbals, 2 S. Main Street, Suite 29, Weaverville, NC (upstairs from Twisted Laurel and Weaverville Realty)
Cost: Free! (donations welcome to help cover supplies!)

This first circle on April 12 is a free, introductory learning circle to give a sense of what we will be exploring in our year-long, monthly Herbal Astrology Series so you can decide if you would like to join us for the full series. In these circles, we’ll experience herbal astrology hands-on, exploring each zodiac sign and its corresponding herbal allies in their own season, so the body and mind can feel and integrate the energies more deeply.

Whether you are new to herbs and astrology or a seasoned herbalist and astrologer, this group is designed to be fun, engaging, and informative for all experience levels.

Monthly series will be $35/month ($385 total) with sliding scale and partial scholarships available for those in need!

Welcome back, cleavers!!

Go ahead and pick one, just be sure to say please and thank you to the plant. Notice the stickiness of the stems and leaves, courtesy of tiny hooked bristles that act like Velcro, enabling the plant to cling to animals and other plants, assisting in its growth and seed dispersal. Cleavers, aka bedstraw, are one of our best cooling lymphatics, moving fluid while alleviating inflammation and toning the kidneys. Best taken as a juice of the fresh plant. Try it and let me know what you think!

Seeing the new patches of dead nettle made me a little giddy today on my walk. The rising of spring energy was palpable…so exciting! However, there’s something intriguing about the trees in winter. I paused to appreciate their beauty, each one unique, responding to influences seen and unseen. Do you have a favorite winter tree?

Here's a quick read on the mechanisms of action that make herbs powerful healers.

Sometimes it can feel like magic, but it isn't. It's chemistry. An individual plant may be comprised of hundreds of different chemical compounds, all of which have unique and synergistic qualities. For instance, when you drink a hot mug of chamomile tea after a stressful day, the compound apigenin b...

As you continue to recover from Helene, what aspects of you need healing? In order to introduce to you some of the ways in which herbs can be helpful, I thought I'd share with you the formulas I created for my own process. Yes, my property was damaged in several ways, but for me, the hardest part is the grief, the details of which I will keep to myself as I am quite certain you already have enough of your own weighing on your heart. My grief formula contains schisandra berry, Holy basil, St John's Wort, and Mimosa bark. I'll explain a little about each one:

- Schisandra berry helps to normalize the nervous, digestive and immune systems. It's a tonic for the whole body, boosting physical and mental energy and retaining the Jing, or vital essence. It also helps to protect the liver against environmental, viral and drug induced damage.

- Holy Basil (Tulsi) lifts the spirits, increases clarity of thought, and dispels depression. It clears out the fogginess, reduces anxiety, and increasing feelings of joy and happiness.

- St. John's Wort connects us with our solar plexus, helping to relieve mild depression, especially when accompanied by anxiety, fear, and insomnia. An herb that blooms during the summer solstice, it reconnects us with the sunshine in ourselves and our community. It is also invaluable for treating nerve pain.

- Mimosa bark is both uplifting and grounding, easing heartaches, stress, and irritability and helping to calm the spirit while releasing suppressed emotions.

Powerful medicine, I use this formula to help me process and release the grief without getting stuck in it. It allows me to feel it and move on so that I can be of service to others. This is just a few of the herbs that are beneficial for the nervous system. The beautiful thing is that they can be combined in such a way as to address a specific person's unique needs.

Sometime soon I will share my formula for sleep!

I see you, WNC: the determined helpers, nimble organizers, steadfast supporters, brave rescuers, and magicians yielding chainsaws, shovels and bucket trucks, transforming wreckage into something recognizable, who are exchanging the currencies of kindness and connection to keep us all moving forward. I also see: the exhaustion, anxiety, overwhelm and deep, profound grief penetrating the initial adrenaline rush. I would like to offer my services as a clinical herbalist, free of charge, to the collective to help us recover and rebuild. It’s a long road ahead and we must care for our physical and emotional needs so we don’t exhaust and burn ourselves out. Nobody benefits from that. So please please please, if you would like help with sleep, mood, energy, digestion, etc, reach out. I have an office in Weaverville and am happy to travel or meet by phone. Consultation fees will be waived and the costs for herbs and supplements will be pay-as-you-can for the near future. I look forward to meeting you.
