Today is the ICE OUT General Strike: a national day of protest and a moment to clearly voice the kind of world we want to live in.
I firmly believe mind–body practices are essential to the work you are doing in your lives, hearts, homes, and in the broader world. In case there was any question, our classes today will go on as scheduled.
I wanted to use the energy of this day to share some artwork I’ve been working on over the past few weeks.
As I was planning our spring merch over MLK Day weekend, and in response to the state of the world, I felt compelled to exercise my First Amendment rights and create an artistic interpretation of the Great Seal of the United States.
I replaced the thirteen stars above the eagle with OM, the symbol of wholeness, Ishvara (teacher of the ancients), and the primordial sound of creation from which we all come.
The five outer rings represent the five layers of the human experience: body, breath, mind, intuition, and connection to divinity — layers we all share, regardless of skin color, origin, or belief.
The glowing orange and yellow tones symbolize the peace and illumination many traditions teach live within us. The traditional red stripes were reimagined to proclaim inclusivity, as we continue advocating for the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of all.
The original Latin E Pluribus Unum remains — from many, one.
The eight lotus petals represent the Eightfold Path and are shown in the colors of the throat chakra, where values become voice and action.
The eagle traditionally holds an olive branch and arrows. The arrows represent readiness to defend liberty, but the head of the eagle is turned toward the olive branch, showing a clear preference for peace. However, our eagle’s eye is intentionally feminine, honoring the fierce, protective love of a mother. The bravery and protection we need for our neighbors must be grounded in compassion, not dominance.
My hope is that this artwork helps you feel connected to one another and to the deeper truth that you are not alone in your anger, your action, or your dreams for a better world.
Stay safe out there, take care of your bodies, and know we are with you all the way. ❤️✨✌🏼
