It is Movement Monday, and today we are bringing the movement to you! ๐Ÿช‘๐Ÿ’œ

For those living with Parkinson's, staying active does not always mean hitting the gym. Seated exercises are a safe, accessible way to keep the body moving, build strength, and support balance, all from the comfort of a chair.

Here are a few simple moves to try right now:
๐Ÿ™Œ Arm Raises: Slowly lift both arms overhead and lower them back down.
๐Ÿฆต Seated Leg Lifts: Extend one leg at a time and hold for a few seconds.
๐Ÿ”„ Ankle Circles: Rotate each ankle in slow circles to keep joints loose.
๐Ÿคธ Torso Twists: Gently rotate your upper body side to side.
๐Ÿ‘ Hand Squeezes: Open and close your hands to keep grip strength up.

Always check with a doctor or physical therapist before starting a new exercise routine. And remember, every little bit counts! ๐Ÿ’ช

Introducing Our Caregiver of the Month: Belinda Mitchell ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’™

Belinda has a background in healthcare administration and started caregiving when both of her parents were in need of hospice care. When she retired, she wanted to stay busy and do something meaningful. She brings extensive knowledge of Veterans and benefits and has been a great resource to our clients exploring those benefits. She most enjoys that while the job can be stressful, there are always moments throughout the day that add joy and laughter. If she could spend one day doing anything, it would be crafting and sewing without interruption. Her favorite part of working at Senior Helpers is the communication between clients, caregivers, and office staff. She is always willing to lend a helping hand and be there for our clients. Belinda is pictured with her client, who is so grateful for all of her care and support! Her family was able to attend our party for her, and it was so fun!

Senior Helpers is very excited to announce Belinda as our February Caregiver of the Month.

It is Movement Monday, and this week we are spotlighting Rock Steady Boxing! ๐ŸฅŠ๐Ÿ’œ

Rock Steady Boxing is a nonprofit organization that offers boxing-inspired fitness programs specifically designed for people with Parkinson's disease. No punches are thrown at opponents, but participants work hard to fight back against their symptoms through non-contact boxing drills, cardio, strength training, and balance exercises.

Research has shown that intense exercise, particularly boxing, may help slow the progression of Parkinson's symptoms and improve quality of life. Rock Steady Boxing has helped thousands of people living with Parkinson's regain strength, confidence, and community.

This video is such a moving glimpse into what it means to navigate a Parkinsonโ€™s diagnosis with honesty, strength, and hope.

David and Michaelโ€™s journey is a beautiful reminder that while the road may not be easy, having the right support system can make all the difference.

We have the privilege of supporting this wonderful organization that helps individuals with a diagnosis feel less alone, more understood, and supported through every stage of their journey. And that kind of support can mean everything.

It is Movement Monday, and this week we are diving into one of the most important questions in Parkinson's care: why does movement matter? ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿšถ

For those living with Parkinson's disease, staying active is about so much more than fitness. Regular movement can help reduce stiffness, improve balance and coordination, support mental and emotional wellbeing, and make a meaningful difference in overall quality of life.

The best part? It does not have to be intense. Even gentle, intentional movement can have a real impact.

Not all fats are created equal. Some fats help support heart and brain health, while others are best enjoyed in moderation. Understanding the difference can make everyday food choices easier. ๐Ÿซ’๐Ÿ’œ

Good fats are typically unsaturated fats. These fats can help support cholesterol levels, brain function, and overall heart health. Youโ€™ll often find them in foods like:
โ€ข Avocados
โ€ข Olive oil and canola oil
โ€ข Nuts and seeds
โ€ข Fatty fishlike salmon and tuna

Bad fats are usually saturated or trans fats. Eating too much of these fats may increase the risk of heart health concerns, so they are best limited when possible. Common sources include:
โ€ข Fried foods
โ€ข Processed snacks
โ€ข Baked goods made with shortening
โ€ข Fast food meals and processed meats

Choosing more good fats and limiting bad fats is one simple way to support healthy aging through nutrition.
