This is self-care.

And no… it’s not a spa day.

Although I fully support a plush robe and cucumber water moment.

I’m talking about the unglamorous, slightly unsexy, very adult version of self-care.

There was a season of my life where I would lovingly prepare everyone else’s meals…
make sure everyone else had what they needed…
send everyone else out the door fueled and ready…

And then I would head into a full day of patient care with absolutely nothing for myself.

No food.
No plan.
Just vibes and caffeine.

By 2pm I was either scavenging for something random or pretending I “wasn’t that hungry.”

Me. A functional medicine doctor.
The irony is not lost on me.

What I’ve learned is this:

High-level self-care isn’t flashy.
💫It’s making the smoothie.
💜Packing the protein.
💦Drinking the water.
🙌🏻Bringing the supplements.

Keeping my blood sugar stable so I don’t turn into a shaky, hangry philosopher by mid-afternoon.

It’s deciding that I matter — daily.
Not just when I’m depleted enough to earn it.

That’s the kind of care that feels steady.
Seen.
Prioritized.
