Whiplash and Cervical Spine Pain

A few years ago, I realized that many of my loved ones suffered from chronic pain and took pain relievers on a daily basis to function. First, the pain killers most of my beloved chronic pain sufferers were being prescribed were reeking havoc on their livers, stomachs, and intestines. At that point, I decided to dedicate my life to finding a solution. The first step was taking my knowledge of mechanics and love for anatomy and heading to a Therapeutic Massage School. The body is a system of simple machines all working together to create motion. This system must be constantly fueled by the foods we eat, "oiled" by the water we drink, and balanced by our massage therapist. What do I mean by balanced? Shouldn't our bodies be in a state of balance all the time? The way we use our bodies every day is what pulls them out of balance. Let us use a factory worker or office assistant as an example. These workers sit or stand all day with their arms in front of them, typing or assembling parts. This action creates a posture with what's called "rounded shoulders". The shoulders slump forward causing the muscles in the chest to shorten and the muscles across the upper back to lengthen. Over time, the lengthened muscles begin to ache and pain begins to radiate from the back of the neck to the bottom of the shoulder blades. Sound familiar? If left untreated, Imagine how this posture could change the landscape of your body over time. Sure, a muscle relaxer or anti-inflammatory may dull the pain and treat the symptom, but it does not fix the problem. We are in a society that throws pills a problems instead of solutions as causes. I urge you to help your body find balance. Be kind to your body. You get only one.
