Congratulations to our Child and Maternal Services Team!
We are proud to be recognized as a Gold Certified Safe Sleep Hospital, honoring our commitment to keeping our youngest patients safe. Our team works every day to promote safe sleep practices for newborns by:

• Implementing a standardized safe sleep policy for all infants
• Placing babies on their backs to sleep
• Using firm mattresses with no soft bedding in cribs
• Ensuring cribs meet the highest safety standards
• Encouraging room-sharing without bed-sharing for breastfeeding families
• Providing parents with education and resources on safe sleep practices

Thank you to this incredible team for helping families start their journey with the safest sleep possible. 💛

Many of us wear blue every day here at WVU Medicine Weirton Medical Center, but in March, the blue means even more. March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Colorectal Cancer is one of the most preventable cancers when caught early. If you are 45 or older, talk to your healthcare provider about getting screened. (Pictured here are amazing members of our team in Endoscopy and the Emergency Department.)

Thank you for GOING BLUE!

Early detection saves lives.

Winter Car Seat Safety Tips: Keeping Kids Safe & Warm

Winter coats and snowsuits may seem cozy, but they should never be worn under a car seat harness.

Why? In a crash, bulky coats flatten instantly, creating extra space in the harness. This can allow a child to slip out of their seat — a serious safety risk.

How to keep your child warm AND safe:
*Buckle your child in without bulky layers
*Use thin, warm clothing instead
*Place a coat or blanket over the harness after your child is buckled

These tips apply to all ages — even adults should avoid puffy coats under seat belts.

Stay warm. Stay safe.

Today, we had the pleasure of meeting Brooke High School senior Elliot McDonald, whose kindness will be felt by many when they need it most.

As her senior project, Elliot spent months creating 23 hand-made fleece knot blankets for patients at the WVU Medicine Weirton Medical Center Cancer Center, inspired by a loved one receiving care here.

Elliot, the daughter of Heather and David McDonald of Colliers, plans to pursue biochemical engineering and enjoys figure skating and playing on the Brooke High School golf team.

Thank you, Elliot, for your compassion and dedication to our community—we know you’ll do great things! 💚💛 (Elliot presented the blankets to Tina Rigby, BSN, RN--Nurse Manager of the Cancer Center)
