"Jesus didn’t die for your performance—He died for your heart."

Treating Your Body as a Temple: A Biblical Perspective

The Bible offers clear guidance on how we are to care for our bodies—not just physically, but spiritually and morally. The concept of the body as a "temple" reflects its sacred purpose: a dwelling place for the Holy Spirit and a vessel for honoring God.

Here are three biblical principles for treating your body as a temple:

1. Eat with Intention and Gratitude
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:31 – “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
This verse teaches that even ordinary acts like eating and drinking can glorify God when done with the right heart and discipline. Healthy, balanced eating supports the body’s function and honors the Creator who designed it.

2. Move with Purpose
Scripture: Proverbs 31:17 – “She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.”
Physical activity is not just for aesthetics or fitness—it’s a way to strengthen our bodies for service and stewardship. Staying active prepares us to fulfill the responsibilities and callings God places in our lives.

3. Avoid Harmful Practices
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you…? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
This passage calls for purity and self-control. We are urged to avoid substances, behaviors, or influences that defile or harm the body, recognizing it as a vessel for God’s presence and purpose.

Let's break down the gut-brain axis in a simple way:

What is the Gut-Brain Axis?

The gut-brain axis is like a two-way communication highway between your brain and your gut (digestive system). They "talk" to each other all the time using nerves, hormones, and even the bacteria living in your gut (your gut microbiome).

Think of it like this:

When you're nervous, you might feel butterflies in your stomach — that's your brain affecting your gut.

When you eat junk food or have an upset stomach, you might feel moody or foggy — that's your gut affecting your brain.

Why is it important?

A healthy gut can help improve your:

Mood (like reducing anxiety and depression)

Immune system

Digestion and metabolism

Sleep and focus

Good Eating Habits to Support the Gut-Brain Axis

1. Eat more fiber-rich foods
Fiber feeds the good bacteria in your gut.
Examples: Whole grains, beans, lentils, fruits, and vegetables.

2. Include fermented foods
These are natural probiotics (good bacteria).
Examples: Yogurt with live cultures, kefir, kimchi, sauerkraut, and kombucha.

3. Avoid too much sugar and processed foods
These can throw off your gut balance and cause inflammation.

4. Eat a variety of colorful fruits and veggies
Different plants feed different good bacteria, so variety helps your gut thrive.

5. Stay hydrated
Water helps everything move smoothly through your digestive system.

6. Eat mindfully and reduce stress
Stress messes with digestion. Try eating slowly, chewing well, and avoiding screens during meals.

7. Consider prebiotic foods
These "feed" your probiotics (good bacteria).
Examples: Garlic, onions, bananas, leeks, and asparagus.
